On my recent trip to Thailand, I had the opportunity to spend the day at the most amazing elephant sanctuary I could imagine. It was a private tour, and I was the only guest on site. I was picked up at my hotel in the morning and driven to the location. I was given the opportunity to do a day trip or spend the night, and I chose the day trip. I had immediate regrets about not choosing to spend the night when I saw how beautiful it was. The tour guide was amazing and very fun to hang out with . He was also incredibly patient and worked around my physical disabilities and allowed me to rest whenever I needed to. We could have done a much more strenuous walk, but he took me on an easy path, which still allowed me to experience the elephants, even with my physical limitations..This was one of the best parts of my trip, and I highly recommend this elephant journey to anyone that is interested. It’s an excellent value, and the elephants are very well taken care of. It’s a mother elephant with her baby, but she is also pregnant so eventually there will be a Third elephant to adore.. All I can say, is book a trip to see this place, and definitely spend the night, even if you have to pay for your hotel in town that evening, it’s worth the very small increase in price just to spend more time there, I promise you will not regret it.I would also like to say that Jack is an amazing photographer, and he caught some really good pictures of me on my journey. On my next trip to Thailand, I plan to go back, but this time I will be spending the night .
What a hidden gem! Intimate, genuinely ethical elephant reserve and off the beaten path. We spent the day with Jack and his wonderful family, including two very special elephants (mother & daughter) and it was incredible. Jack picked us up from our hotel in Chiang Mai first thing in the morning and drove us to his reserve which was two hours away. He speaks perfect English and told us interesting things about the Karen tribe as we drove. We then met the elephants, played with them and fed them before watching them bathe and then joining them on a two hour trek through the jungle – their morning walk and graze! After that, we had a delicious lunch, prepared by Jack and his wife and we sat on his deck overlooking his own personal little waterfall where the elephants soon came to play and bathe. After lunch, we joined Jack in making medicine balls for the elephants which we then fed them before wrapping up and returning back to our hotel. All in all the most amazing day. If you want to experience this, I suggest you get in touch with Jack as soon as you book your trip because he only sees a limited number of families per month!
I think this place is the most eco-friendly and good for elephants in the area. The farm is deep in the forest and tourists are not here every day – the owner is primarily interested in animals, not in making money with animals. After visiting this place, it seems that all other “eco-friendly” places nearby are just business and not as animal-friendly as they claim on their websites.
