  1. We loved it! Found this sanctuary on a responsible tourism site as it was important to me that we visited an ethical elephant place. The relationship between the elephants and the staff is clearly a loving one and we felt safe throughout the day… even when we were very up close. It is hard to really do the day justice with words, but we will treasure the experience for many years. Communication was great and the collection/organisation excellent. Lovely lunch and water also provided. Great value for money.

  2. Oh wow just feel elated. Had a fabulous time with the elephants and their keepers. Very honest and informative and the elephants were amazing. Fed, walked and bathed with them and got great photos. Lunch provided was delicious. Great all round experience. I would truly recommend and will come back and do a home stay visit. Best sanctuary in Chiang Mai 😃😃

  3. It was a really nice and beautiful experience. Sascha was our guide and he was really kind and gave us tons of information about elephants, their care, the village and Karen culture. We were the only ones who booked the experience that day so we were very lucky and could enjoy the daily life of the elephants. We fed them, bathed them, shared some time together and then had a delicious lunch. It’s a great and cute experience.

  4. The best option for visiting elephants! Generations of families own and care for the elephants. They are all so well cared for and loved. You get the true history of the caring for the elephants and that kind of knowledge and experience is just wow!

  5. We originally had a different sanctuary booked but it got cancelled due to the floods however I’m so glad we went here. The team are incredible and the experience with the elephants is amazing. We went as a family of four and the elephant keepers really educated about the elephants. We got to feed them multiple time, walk with them and bathe with them. The lunch served was also really delicious. The keepers knew the elephants behaviours so well. It was such a brilliant day.

  6. My boyfriend and I absolutely loved our time at elephant freedom village. We did the half day. We got picked up and dropped off at our hotel which was lovely. The people at the village were so friendly and funny. It was evident they devote everything to these elephants and care so much for them – the elephants are their family. They did a little talk at the beginning talking about the ethics and history. Then we got dressed in fun clothing and got to feed the elephants, walk with them, swim with them, and had lunch. The elephants loved people and gave us kisses and hugs. The people who cared for the elephants were amazing at taking pictures for us on our phones. 10/10 experience. I wanna go back.

  7. I absolutely loved my experience at Elephant Freedom Village – it was definitely my favorite part of my whole trip to Thailand! My friend and I went together and did the full day tour, and the only thing we regretted was that we did not have enough time to stay longer for one of the overnight options that they offer! When we were planning and researching elephant sanctuaries, it was important to us that we chose an ethical place where the elephants were treated well, and we were very pleased with our decision after arriving. Our guide (who told us to call him spiderman lol) talked about how his family has been taking care of elephant for 7 generations now, and it was very clear that these elephants are very well taken care of, and they genuinely seemed much happier than many other elephants I’ve seen. “Spiderman” was very knowledgable yet humorous, and able to really explain the right and wrong ways of taking care of these creatures. He flawlessly answered any questions, and was very transparent with their practices of how they take care of the elephants. It is clearly a family fun place as well, as he mentioned his brother helping him out, his wife was the one who did the book keeping and hosted us when we were arriving and leaving, and we even got to meet his young son who I assume will grow up to be the 8th generation of family elephant caretakers. We were able to feed the elephants, walk and play with them, and go in the water to bathe them (I did not realize how much elephants loved playing in the water!) If I were to ever go back to Thailand, it would be to go to Elephant Freedom Village again! This was an absolutely incredible experience, and I would 100% recommend people to go here and support this wonderful organization.

  8. Beautiful tour of the elephant freedom village and the elephants were just amazing. The relationship between the caretakers and the elephants seemed so great, and the tour was carried out at the elephants pace. The sanctuary is also extremely beautiful and has so many wonderful areas. A must try and was the perfect way to start my holding in Chiang Mai. I must also emphasise how engaging the guides were they were just great and were helpful and kind.

  9. I spent 3 days at EFV and it was honestly one of the best experiences of my life, I smiled the whole time I was there. The keepers are amazing and treat the elephants like family. I got to spend lots of time with Non who shared his experience of growing up in harmony with the elephants and you can really see the bond that the elephants have with their keepers. The keepers work tirelessly all day and stay with elephants overnight too, the elephants are their whole life. I would highly recommend the 3 day programme, you get immersed into the day to day life and get a real feel for it. The staff are so friendly, always checking if you need anything else and doing anything they can to ensure you enjoy your experience. I was pleasantly surprised with the accommodation, the room was spacious with a beautiful view over the river (I think the website could be updated as it didn’t show this). The staff feed you so much delicious food and take you to experience local restaurants. All staff are so kind and just want you to have the best experience. There are also 7 friendly dogs who live at EFV who used to be stray but have chosen to stay there as they get treated and fed well. It might be a little further away than others but trust me, you won’t regret it! Thank you to everyone at EFV, I hope to see you again soon!
