The staff was great and showed us beautiful places. Getting to the Emerald Cave is an experience like no other! Lunch was good, on a beautiful beach. You do drive far in the boat to reach these places so there’s a lot of riding time. Overall would recommend
We had a great time on this tour and would recommend it. It would be even better if there was more communication between the crew and passengers, for instance the Emerald cave portion can be a bit daunting since you’re herded through the water into a pitch black cave with waves pushing back and forth and sharp rocks on all sides. A bit of guidance (i.e. we will be going through a cave for ten minutes, watch your head, stay together etc) would have done a lot of good! But yes overall it’s an amazing day and you will be hard pressed to find beaches nicer than this in the world.
We had a great time! The crew was attentive and professional and the day tour wad exactly as described. First snorkelling spot no big deal, second was better but the part we loved most was the emerald cave and the lunch time at Koh Ngai which to us felt like paradise. We even think about staying there for 2-3 nights. Overall an excellent experience, highly recommend!
Pros:-Emerald cave is pretty cool! Quite a long cave with amazing hidden beach. -The curry at lunchtime was delicious.Cons:-The main one was we didn’t feel safe … At all. We ended the trip just being thankful we were alive.. No joke. The boat was struggling and rocking like crazy and everyone was getting soaked from sea spray. -Guides didn’t really talk at all.-the first two islands you don’t get to set foot on the island.. Just swim near it.. Saw better fish on Koh Lanta and the snorkels and flippers were rubbish. -the lunch island required everyone to struggle through about 50m of water with dead coral and rocks to get to shore. Lunch was just sitting on a rock under a tree.. No seats etc. Overall, we felt so unsafe we’re just glad we made it back. Not enough cool stuff to see and no decent coral. You spend most of the time on a boat getting soaked and everyone looked miserable.
Booking this tour with resort, the beautiful Cheryl, (not her real name), he recommended this tour private group and our own captain and guide – amazing value with hotel pickup , deliver to pier, 6 hour boat ride in long tail with our guide Singa! The captain a mysterious fellow very competent in his handling of the long tail! 4 islands, Emerald Cave, Koh Kradan, Koh Chuek, Koh Ngai! Amazing snorkeling over wonderful coral reefs, saw nemo, dory, moray eel, many many reef fish and some deep sea varieties at most locations ! Expertly guided through the emerald cave in darkness and by torch light, you emerge out of the cave, onto the most amazing beach the centre of a canyon hidden from outside – legend has it pirates going the cave and hid their treasures within the cave! Lunch provided – life vests and snorkeling apparel, cold water also plentiful! Top it off with our local guide prepared to wait at dock so we could witness the local koh lanta old town festival, including town parade, fireworks and about 30 long tail boats in flotilla! Amazing day and highlight of our 10 days
Our Long tail tour included pickup at 0830, 30 min to pier, Koh’s Chuek, Kraden, Muk(Emerald Cave) &Ngai. It was a 50 min ride in a very loud, diesel smelling, overcrowded boat(24 +3 crew) to the first snorkeling stop Chuek. Among many other boats and people. Lots of fish to see but the water was so churned up from the boats it was dirty and cloudy. Could have passed on that stop. Next stop, 20 minutes to Kraden. Snorkeling on a large reef that is sadly quite brown but water was much clearer and lots of fish, giant clams and urchins to see. Had a nice lunch on the beautiful beach there. The crew were very friendly and helpful. Next stop 25 min to Muk. A beautiful 80 metre swim( life jackets if needed) guided with light through a beautiful cave. The water appears green and so peaceful. Through the cave you emerge on a stunning beach surrounded all sides by cliffs and trees. This was the best part of the day!. Be sure to give the guide your camera to have once you reach the beach. We were lucky it was not crowded , only our group. Back on the boat and had engine trouble. Sat for almost an hour bobbing in the heat. Understand things happen but everyone was ready to head home, we were already over an hour behind schedule. Went 25 min on to Ngai for a quick stop and drink. Unfortunately our time there was cut short , it’s a very pretty beach with turquoise water. Next 50 min back to the Pier at Koh Lanta and 25 min truck ride to hotel arriving back at 6:30 pm It was a super long day , in my opinion too much travel time to balance the experience. It ended up being a 10 hr day with only about 4 hrs of experience and not great snorkeling. I’d recommend hiring a speedboat, go to Koh Muk early then find a nice island (Ngai ?) for a couple of hours then home. I must say the crew was really good and it’s pretty impressive he was able to fix the motor / starter without many tools on board.
Unless you know that you have perfect weather ahead of you for the day, absolutely avoid this at ALL costs. If the weather turns on you, you are in for a terrifying experience. They should know better and persist regardless of the weather and we ended up with no visibility, in the middle of the sea, being absolutely thrashed around on the boat – and the boat motor kept breaking down. I genuinely thought that we were going to end up stranded or drowned. It was awful. Avoid it if you can, it was not remotely worth it.
Really nice trip. Cave wass beautiful like all the beaches. We were lucky with the weather, sun was shining and no wind at all.
