We really recommend this sanctuary, the whole experience was incredible! Our guide was very kind and fun 🙂
Fantastic! With so many tour operators to choose from I am so so glad I came here. Our tour was so much smaller and more meaningful than the other tour operators. The gentleman who owns this business is also the guide so it is created with so much love and personalisation. He even takes pictures of your day and sends you them after. I was very picky as I wanted to make sure the elephants were happy. There was no sticks or riding. You get to feed, bath and watch them in their natural habitat.Lunch was huge and there was a lot of variety including options for vegans, vegetarian and meat eater. The jungle treck to the waterfall was great as our guide was so knowledgeable with the local fruits and plants. The rafting was of course so much fun and you finish back with the elephants doing their natural thing which of course was really nice. Only a little higher in price it was well worth it to avoid the cheep, nasty, rushed and overcrowded tours. It was very easy to book, the guy is super responsive on WhatsApp so if you have any questions he’ll be there to support you.
I had previously gone on an elephant ride, trek and river raft trip in 2007 but wanted to interact with the elephants more on this 2nd trip to Chiangmai. After researching on TA, it looked like Tum’s tour was well reviewed and had a little of everything I wanted; interacting with elephants, trek to waterfalls and white water rafting. I was able to contact Tum through email easily. He had plenty of availability and was very responsive to my questions. $1900bh per person was a fair price and we were the only two people that day. He used to have multiple guides and tour vans but after the pandemic had to let everyone go. He operates on his own and drives his own car for the trip. He picked us up at our hotel at 830am and accompanied us in everything but the white water rafting. The elephant camp was fun, where we learned about the elephants’ behaviors and habitat. We fed, bathed and interacted with them for about 2 hours. Then had lunch at the facility (salad, pad Thai, fried rice, fried chicken) before we set out for the hike. The hike to the waterfall was moderate in difficulty. There were areas that were a bit rocky and slippery. Sneakers would be better but if you had sandals with straps, they would be okay but getting wet May cause them to be less stable. The waterfall was nice and the water around it was shallow so you can wade into it. We went at a pretty fast pace and it took a little over an hour round trip. The white water rafting was along the way between the elephant camp and hike. The water level was starting to rise due to rainy season starting, so it lasted a little over 30 minutes. Still likely class 2, but there were a few fun rapids. We returned to our hotel around 430pm (drive to and from took about 40-60 minutes)All in all, the trip was fun and Tum was a pleasant guide.
This was one of our best days on our Asia trip! I cannot recommend this experience enough. Tum is so wonderful – he is knowledgeable about the elephants, nature, and the area, and makes such an effort to ensure you are having the best day (and getting great photos). We got to spend so much time with the elephants and he was so excited to introduce us to them. The waterfall hike was beautiful and the rafting was very fun. I’m so glad we chose this tour!!
It was a very nice day! The guide (and owner of this small tour company) was very friendly and explained a lot. He seemed to really care for the elephants. It looked like the caretakers of the elephants also cared for them. A young elephant could do a few tricks. We asked how she was trained, and they said without hurting her. We hope thats true. If you are looking for a tour without animal cruelty, i think this is one of the better places. The provided lunch was also very tasty and diverse (with lots of vegetarian options). The amount of food however was so much, that more than half had to be thrown away. Even with big eaters at the table. Maybe in the future its possible to make a little bit less so its a bit less waste 🙂 So if you want a full day tour with a variety of activities, I would recommend this one!
My favourite activity in Chiangmai. Tum collected us from our hotel and we started in the Kanjana Elephant Sanctuary where we got to feed the elephants, learn about them, hug and kiss them and wash them. It was the whole elephant experience ! They take such good care of the elephants here, it is beautiful to see. We were given clothes so ours wouldn’t get dirty and there’s also showers on site to clean up afterwards.Next we had a Thai lunch, very tasty and not spicy, thank goodness!! Next we did the trek to Huaysatan Waterfall, it wasn’t a difficult walk and took just under an hour. Covered by trees most of the time so the heat wasn’t unbearable. The waterfall is beautiful, very picturesque and quite shallow so you can just walk or sit in it. Finally we went rafting, a lovely way to finish off the day!Tum is such a lovely and jolly man and great entertainment throughout the day. He looked after our belongings and went above and beyond to take so many photos of our whole experience, which he then sent to us. He covered all the basis. Very safe and fun, I would travel with his business again!
That was incredible day and full of joy and adventures. It was rainy during our treking tour and it made the tour even more interesting. Elephank camp was very nice, you can feed, touch and bath the elephants, who are very friendly. The guide was perfect by telling the stories through all day and very nice person.Would recommend 100% !
Me and my friend went on this tour a week ago and it was a day to remember. The tour guide who owns the company was friendly, enthusiastic and answered all our questions about Thailand and Thai culture on the journey to the sanctuary. We were the only ones on the tour (probably because it was off season) so we had three elephants between the two of us, for about two hours – it was beyond my expectations. The elephants seemed very happy. We had a fab lunch (again, they had enough food for about 8 ppl not 2) and the waterfall was an adventurous trek – only one other group walking there. It started pouring with rain so we had to wade through the rivers but our tour guide made us feel comepltely safe and it only added to the excitement. White water rafting also a hit. Would recommend this tour to everyone, particularly those seeking a bit more adventure.
This was a great action-packed day out. Tun picked me up from my hostel, happily answered all of my questions about elephants and Thailand, and took us to the elephant sanctuary. The day was very hands on, and we were kept busy the whole time, despite the weather being quite rainy. The elephants are extremely well-cared for and sociable – most certainly a highlight of the trip. Lunch was included, and was more tasty food than we could finish. Perfect for a busy day.White water rafting was a brand new experience for me and great fun. Whilst we couldn’t fully complete the waterfall hike due to the weather, Tun lost no time and found us an alternative hike.Highly recommend for a full day of activities in Chiang Mai, as a solo traveller and I’m sure would be great as a group.
Had such an amazing experience with Tom! So glad we went on this adventure. It ended up being just me and my brother, so we had a private tour and time with the elephants. He picked us up right on time and drove us over to the elephants where we got to become friends, feed them, and wash them in the river. He provided a He provided an awesome meal with a company that he works with, and there was so much food! Then he took us on this beautiful scenic hike to a waterfall. After which we went on a short, white water rafting trip down the river. And then he brought us back home.
