We took this tour in December 2017.I contacted many different tour companies before booking something for our family. I wanted to take the children to see how the hill tribe people lived, with some elephants and bamboo rafting as well. They made a bespoke tour just for our family and it was the highlight of our time in Thailand. They first took us to a Thai market, which was a great thing to show the kids! And to pick up some wonderful fresh food and fruit for the journey. Then they took us for a proper days’ hike in the forest, swimming in some waterfalls on the way. The tribe we stayed in was so friendly, and although the children couldn’t talk the same language it was amazing to see them all just playing together. We helped cook and they gave us some of the best food we ate out there. I helped to prepare and cook some on pots over the fire. The next day we went bamboo rafting, which the children loved. We had also asked to see elephants – this was a mistake as they took us to this awful place with all the elephants chained to the ground. I would advise not to go and see elephants in Thailand unless you are absolutely sure they are being treated right (so only recognised rescue parks)Apart from this, the tour was an absolute delight. The guides, Num and Bebe felt like friends by the end. Bebe was especially wonderful around the children – he could make so many things with bamboo and a machete, and was constantly handing home made toys to the kids. We still have the bamboo pop-guns he made and we will remember him so fondly. I saw him constantly ensuring the girls were safe – every time the trail got a bit difficult he was standing next to it with a steadying hand. I felt grateful for their presence – they took the worry out of hiking with young children! The girls even hugged our guides before we left.We were treated with so much respect and kindness. I would recommend this company to anyone wanting to try to see around Chang Mai without going around the usual packed tourist places.Thank you so much to our guides for this wonderful experience.
Sdt was able to arrange a solo trip just for me. All for 3500 thb which included lunch and small amenities like rain jacket and energy drinks. Noom took me around North of Thailand, where we did 30% off road and 70% on road as it started to rain the higher up we went. Noom, the guide felt more like a friend than a tour guide, which made it an even better experience. The bikes are in tip top condition, CRF 250L, which are light and easy to maneuver. I had a really great time, will probably consider riding again with them in the winter seasons. Also would recommend that you have riding experience of at least a year if you want to ride by yourself. The on road part is easy, but it gets pretty tricky when go off road in the hills.
I couldn’t have imagined what a spectacular day I was signing up for when I booked the full day motorbike tour to Doi Suthep Temple & the Hot Springs. Nat picked me up at my hotel at 8am, and we didn’t get back until 8-8:30pm (though I’m sure if I had wanted to cut things a little shorter he would have gladly accommodated me). I had also never ridden a motorbike before (ridden ATVs a few times and a dirtbike once), but it was pretty easy to pick up.The views throughout the day were breathtaking, Nat was one of the nicest people I’ve ever met and was an absolute pleasure to spend the day with, and blazing through the streets of Chiang Mai on a motorbike is an experience that I’ll never forget as long as I live. I couldn’t recommend Something Different enough – I’m so glad Nat was able to be part of my trip!
We did the three day trekking tour with Nat and Boo. We started at the local market to buy the ingredients for the trip and went to the jungle near Chiang Mai. The guys were really friendly and explained a lot about the local food and bought things we were curious to try. The trekking itself was awesome, we saw a lot of plants and fruits and Nat could explain all of them to us. We stopped at a rice field and cooked a nice curry. After sleeping there, the second day was really hard, with a lot of trekking directly through the jungle, cutting our way with the machete. If you are not well trained, you will have a real hard time. I run marathons, but there is a big difference in walking on flat streets or up and down at this altitude. In the evening, we stayed at Nat’s parents house for dinner. It was really amazing to be within the family for the evening, to see how they live and cook. We took a bath at a hot spring in their garden and relaxed a little. We stayed the night at a house nearby and slept like the locals do. The last day we visited the highest mountain of Thailand and saw the kings and queens pagoda. At every stop Nat and Boo tried to give us the best experience, they made sure, we get enough food and both were always super friendly. They even brought us from our hotel to the airport on the next day. All in all, we were really pleased with the whole experience. Don’t get me wrong, it was really hard, there is not that much comfort. If you are looking for an easy way to take a nice picture of a rice field, this is not the right tour for you. Also, if you have trouble sleeping and eating in simpler ways, you will not feel too good. If on the other hand you are looking for something authentic, this is it! Nat and Boo were great guides and we will always remember the trip.
Something Different Tours really is something different. You won’t find anything as fun or unique as a tour with Nat anywhere else. I did the 2 day off road tour to Mae Chaem & Doi Inthanon with my little brother and it was one of the best experiences of our lives. Nat, the owner, was our guide with his childhood friend, Boo. They took us on the most scenic ride you can imagine through the mountains and farms. There was not another tourist in sight. We saw the village they grew up in and had dinner at Nat’s parents house and spent the night on their rubber farm. We learned so much about the area, Thai culture, and the food. It was an incredible experience and definitely something you should not miss if you’re in Chiang Mai.
Had a great time during the Something Different tour! We drove in different circumstances which made it very challenging and fun. Learned a lot and saw some beautiful sights. The tour is very well managed. The instructors where friendly and made sure we had a good time.Recommended!!
Our trip with “something different tours” was very good! Excellent!! New motorcycles, good food, nice places we drive. Sometimes on the asfalt. Sometimes off-road, going to waterfalls, bamboo rafting. Everything was organized very good. Also when we ask for something, no problem, they do t for us. We enjoyed the trip and i can say everyone who have the motorcycle license to do this trip. You will enjoy your holiday very good.
I went to Thailand with family. A part of the family went with Nat. Nat was in charge of the motortour. I went with the children and wifes on the same tour but with a jeep. We saw the same amazing viewpoints but went with another vehicle. Our chaffeur was Num, he entertained us with his jokes during our trip. He also told us many stories about Chang Mai. The crew of SDT is very caring so if u need something or you have a question.. No need to worry. They will take your imput seriously. The trip they provide has viewpoints you won’t see when you travel with your own schedule. The trip is entertaining for any age.
I strongly recommend SDT if you are in for an uncomplicated offroad driving challenge. Besides Nat, Num and their team being very kind persons they are very experienced drivers who know the area between Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai very well, like the back of their hands. We participated the trip with seven, most of them experienced, drivers. Five of the Honda CRF250L where brand new at the start of the trip 🙂 Perfect bikes to handle the most difficult slopes. Along the way Nat and Num had a good feeling for our skill-level and adjusted the level of difficulty accordingly.Nat and his team made us and our family members really feel at home with their attentive treatment and delicious food. After this you don’t want something different 😉
My boyfriend and I had this tour recommended to us by a friend and it was worth every cent. I would say to anyone who isn’t an experienced motorbike driver to just get on the back of the tour guides as the terrain is very rough/ unpredictable but it allows you to concentrate on the views and gorgeous surroundings and let the guide worry about the road. From start to finish the guys showed us a real authentic Thai experience from the gorgeous views, different farms where you could see the farmers at work and took us to local restaurants where they ordered actual traditional Thai food for us to try. They brought us to various waterfalls completely off the beaten track where it was just us. Along the way they would stop and give us an insight to different farms or info about nature and the fruits and veg while giving us some fresh fruit straight from the tree. They also brought us to a local Thai family which lived in a bamboo house without electricity. The children tried clothes on us and we talked about differences between our cultures. After the first long day we headed back to the tour guides parents house. They let us chill out in their hot spring pool while they prepared a beautiful Thai dinner for us. Along with food and desert they gave us some rice alcohol which was interesting. We stayed on his parents rubber farm in a little wooden house. The following day we headed to more waterfalls for a swim, we got to watch a traditional Asian festival and then saw the twin pagodas. We also were brought to the highest point in Thailand (doi inthanon). The tour guides were very informative, taught us a lot about the different cultures throughout Thailand and showed us the most beautiful and spectacular views. I would recommend this to anyone coming to Chiang Mai.
