The Elephant Retirement Park in Chiang Mai is a fantastic place where you can get up close and personal with these amazing animals. They are treated with great respect and care here. You can join them on walks and help them bathe in mud and water, all done with care and respect. The lunch provided is delicious, and I suggest buying souvenirs to support the sanctuary and purchasing the amazing photos available. It’s a wonderful experience that you’ll always remember.
Beautiful experience. We were lucky enough to have Francesco (an Italian volunteer) as our guide in the park who guided us through the whole day. Initially, he told us details about the park, who works there and the 9 elephants that live there, all rescued from circuses or captivity situations. Afterwards, we walked with three of these elephants and fed them corncobs, bananas and bamboo. They usually take them for a walk in the forest while continuing to feed them, but since it was now very dry we stopped to play with them and watch them eat among the trees. We had lunch (all very good) and then we first bathed in the mud and then in the water with them helping to wash them. The elephants seemed happy and our impression was that the guys in the park were all kind to them and loving towards them. In conclusion, recommended for those who want to experience these incredible animals in an intimate and as spontaneous a situation as possible.Note of credit to one of the mahood who turned himself into a professional photographer and gave us a free, quality photo shoot.
First we booked with them tour and when we asking for confirmation no body answering us we sent too many emails but no body answer anymore I advise no body to book with them any trip
Such an amazing experience. We decided to book the new program , the full day nursery tour and it was one of a kind. (I mean you’re hanging with baby elephants all day, what’s not to love. )The guides were amazing – shout out to Tim 🙂 We got to feed baby and adult elephants, walk with them, take a mud bath with them , and bathe them! You can see how well they take care of the elephants, and this is a very ethical sanctuary. Once in a lifetime- highly recommend
This was a great experience with amazing volunteers. Cleanly showers and facilities. Served a tasty lunch afterwards.
Hands down the best experience my family has had and made our trip to Thailand one of our favorites. We travel a lot and enjoy excursions that immerse us in nature and interactions with animals. We fed, played, and bathed these magnificent elephants – ALL DAY. Most places only provide a short window of opportunity to interact with the animals. This was beyond our expectations. The staff provides excellent communication and instructions of what to bring and how to dress.Follow their guidelines and you will be set. One note: I had water shoes that made it easy to walk in the bathing areas whereas my husband and son had flipflops that were more difficult to keep on, especially during the mud bath.Lunch was delicious and plentiful. Can’t say enough about ERP. If you are in the area don’t miss this hidden gem
It was literally heaven, we first fed the elephants then gave them a massage then had a bath with them. The people are amazing and very kind and it’s very clean and not dangerous at all around the elephants, we can see that they are well treated and well take care off, honestly i would recommend this experience to anyone who likes animals !!! would totally come back!!!!
This is a very nice place to go. They do small tours so there won’t be too many people and you can enjoy the elephants a lot. The people there are very nice and friendly. If you have kids, I recommend a lot to go there.
I led a school group to the Elephant Retirement Park and we all had a fantastic time. Plenty of time to interact with the elephants-feeding them, playing in the mud and the water with them. The people leading the visit were great, kept us well informed and ensured our safety. Highly recommended.
We researched a number of places beforehand and were really pleased with our 1 day care program. The top and the bottom of it is that any elephants in a sanctuary are somewhat domesticated due to previous neglect or inability to be cared for. We found that the elephant retirement home really cared for the elephants. Our lovely volunteer guide had a lot of knowledge and we felt he and the team had the best interests for the elephants they care for. Amazing experience of feeding, mud bathing and washing these majestic beings.
We chose the nursery program and was with a younger and older elephant all day with a lovely enjoyable lunch in between. Staff made us feel very welcome, I did a lot of research before I chose which one, I wanted a smaller organisation without a mass of people around one elephant, this place at the time had 6 elephants, we felt the elephants were looked after and they seemed very content and they wasn’t nervous around they’re carers. Loved having kisses and the little one holding our hands going for a walk, nothing more amazing than going for a walk and turning around and seeing the older elephant walking down the hill behind you. Will never forget that beautiful sight, and washing the baby elephant, getting him cleaned and then covering himself in mud again ?. It was a very special day which we will treasure forever. ?
It was a brilliant half a day. What a great way to welcome 2025 Francesco and Anne helped us to know what to expect and how to interact with the ? elephants. It seems a very ethical place. We were given a nice lunch before we fed the elephants and then bathed them.Nice to know there are people dedicated to helping these amazing animals to have a good life, as they’ve all been rescued (except for the baby who was born in captivity)Great experience
Something was really wrong about this place and the treatment of the elephants. The guide for example told us that it is fine for the elephant to be riden on the neck on, it doesn’t hurt hem… Then she made a joke about how we can “spank” the elephants hard if they behave in a way we don’t want… Besides that, the elephants had to perform tricks. It felt less like we were taking care of them and more like they had to work for us. It felt very wrong. We saw no riding of the elephants, but I would have preferred to see them move more freely and less hands-on. I would not recommend this.
Amazing experience, super clean place, animals are free and gentlel. The place in general super clean.Natural food buffet.Thank you Francisco for translation in Spanish. From Panama we felt very grateful
