The South Gate was initially called “Tai Vieng Gate”. It means which the last gate of the city. At some point of history it became known by its present name of “Chiang Mai Gate”. It has a wonderful but smelly food market near it. Do not miss Mrs. Pa’s drink stall here.
An excellent night market with all sorts of stalls / vendors selling mainly street food.It’s a vibrant little market and one of the best for street food in Chiang Mai in my personal opinion.Worth the visit, even if you make a special trip to go and see/experience it.I enjoyed my time walking around the market and sampling the various local delicacies.
Love these types of places to visit when overseas you get a real look into local way of life.Some of the food is out there to eat but if you have an adventurous palate then you will love this place.
