If you are bored with the crowded night bazaar, visit Bumrung Buri Market and enjoy cheap and yammy street foods. A fresh fruit shake costs only 20 thb, delicious Thai local foods are also very cheap. You can go to the Nong Buak Public park enjoy relaxing atmosphere, visit Saen Pung Gate and get budget massage, and then have dinner here.
There are an excellent range of food stalls here to choose from and plenty of seating. It opens around 5pm for the dinner trade. Most Thai meals are around 40-50B. There are also lots of fruit smoothies to choose from which cost 20-25B. A great spot for dinner!
Came here almost everyday during my stay in Chiang Mai, albeit only during the mornings. The morning market offers a lot of indigenous food and desserts that are very tasty, and will be great for 1st timers. You can get assorted pork products (Isaan sausages, grilled pork belly etc), local desserts and fruits there. Directly across the market will be several food stands that sell noodles, drinks, and traditional rice porridge. Definitely go for the pork porridge, that is the stuff of heavens. You can come here practically everyday and not get bored with the selection. Will return in the future for the night market. TIP: You can buy a small bag of Isaan sausage from the market, chop it up, and eat it with the porridge across the market. Good times.
A good reason to visit this part of town is “Bumrung Buri Market”. It opens late afternoon until late and offers all the Thai food you are looking for. To its opposite is a Thai style fresh market. I ate here in the evening, sometimes later, many times in the last 20 years and was never disappointed.Bumrung Buri Market is right next to the Chiang Mai Gate, on the south end of the Old Town, next to the moat. Like with all the other gates, there is not much to see here. There are the brick ruins of Fort Ka-Tham, nearby on the south-east corner of the Old Town. Buak Hard Public Park is located at the other end of the southern moat. Combine these little things and you have enough destinations for a nice little afternoon/evening stroll that ends with a great (and inexpensive) meal at Bumrung Buri Market.
We ate here many many times during our visit to Chiang Mai. Authentic Thai street cart meals that are delicious and cheap. Opens about 5 pm and can get busy later in the evening.
A great place to taste a lot of different things! Fruit shakes, fresh coconut, local dishes, grilled meat. There is a smell of food everywhere and you can sit at small tables and relax and enjoy your food. Much traffic around. Very busy area.
