This is the second time we have made this cruise, again with the Premium menu. It is very well organised, the food is very tasty and the service is very friendly. Especially our waiter Pitchy has made us feel very welcome. Highly recommended.
We were in the middle of an ocean cruise, staying at a hotel overnight in Bangkok. We visited some of the temples in the afternoon, and we had been advised that an evening river cruise is a good way to see some of the beautiful lights of Bangkok from the water. We found Manohra Luxury Dining Cruises based on positive reviews here and elsewhere, and we decided to book the cruise for our only evening in Bangkok. We assumed that the sights would be beautiful, and we frankly just hoped that the food was pretty good. For some reason we were not successful in booking the cruise on Manohra’s own website, we kept getting an error message. So we booked it through a third party agency. I see now that I could have also booked it right here at Trip Advisor. The restored rice barge provided a very pleasant way to cruise the river, not at all like some of the big “party boats” we also saw on the river during our cruise. And whereas those cruises (based on comments from others who took them) had loud music and buffet dining, the Manohra cruise had a very refined atmosphere with beautifully presented table dining. I was not counting, but there must have been at least 8 courses, each with an impressive plating. And they were delicious, way beyond our hope that the food would be “pretty good.” Toward the end of the cruise, the chef visited each table to thank us for coming, and received nothing but compliments from everyone I could overhear.I have read some of the other reviews. I truly can’t understand any complaints about the food, because ours was excellent. They were also very good about accommodating dietary concerns. It is true that the rice barge has a low overhanging roof. So if a couple is seated at a table, as a practical matter one person will have a good unobstructed view for pictures (because that person is right next to the railing), while the other person will also have a great view, but pictures will be trickier because of the overhanging roof. So one of us took the great majority of the pictures.
Overall, we had a memorable experience on this dinner cruise for my girlfriend’s birthday. The atmosphere was lovely, the service was attentive, and the food was flavorful. However, unfortunately, both of us experienced stomach issues afterward, which put a damper on the otherwise enjoyable evening.
The boat trip itself from the food to the waiting service was very good so can’t fault that and we very much enjoyed the meal with our family. The hotel and environment from which the boat leaves is also lovely. However we booked the trip for Christmas Day a week or so prior our trip to Thailand and all had been confirmed by email but then had a call a few days later saying the price was now increasing by £35 each x 4! This was unacceptable to us so we moved the trip to 27th Dec. An hour before the trip we received an email saying the boat we were going on – the traditional wooden boat as advertised – was being changed to a front deck metal boat. This again was and is unacceptable to us. We complained and we’re reverted to the wooden boat but the stress and confusion caused when we were meant to be enjoying our drinks was unnecessary. I could have rated this lower were it not for the fact the waiting staff were so warm and polite. Please deliver as advertised and stick to your prices.
Couldn’t review the experience, operator cancelled our confirmed spot and ticket without explanation. Responded that I could rebook on a different date or get a refund in 5 days(Maybe)… hope you enjoy holding onto my money. Interesting fact they are quite able to take the money in about 30 seconds…
The food had great presentation but lackluster taste. The service was excellent, announcements were muffled and hard to understand.
