On this day i wanted to experience what Chaing Mai had to offer for golf and decided to visit Highland golf resort for 18 holes. Coming from the U.S. i was not about to lug my golf clubs to Thailand so i got rental clubs. ( i did bring my golfshoes) . When you play golf in Thailand it becomes a pampered event. Not only do you get a golfcart but you also get a caddie ( female) who becomes your personal servant ( my experience). From helping info on the tee, fairway, and especially the putting green, an umbrella was always over your head to block the sun and a fan on my face when she was in the cart. This women was right on with her putting tips, impressive. The course is quite lovely with beautiful mountains in the background. Greens and fairways were in excellent shape. The fees were a bit hefty but compared with nice courses in the U.S. it was much less. Definately a place i would recommend if you want to do some golfing in the Chaing Mai area. It is a ride , i hired a driver for the day.
Enjoyed the round, good pace of play for a Friday. Friendly staff and pro. Design fit well into the topography.
Played three courses in Chiangmai during the trip, this is by far the best course we played. The course is well maintained, the green speed is not very fast, but consistent across different holes. Caddies are well trained and gives you good advise both on long shots and on putts. Overall, very enjoyable course.
This course is probably the best course in the Chiang Mai area with Alpine being a lose second. The scenery is fabulous and the course is challenging and well laid out. Maintenance of the course is excellent and the club house and lockers are very good. This course is a definite if you are a golfer in CNX
Entire package and experience here is enjoyable. Nice clubhouse and facilities, parkland type golf course with not many penalising hazards / tight fairways. Beginner golfers would not have much of a problem here. Better golfers just tee off from the back tees. One of the 2 best courses in Chiangmai
This review is for foreign tourists. The locals know all this. There are times to play here that you can rave about and times that leave you dissatisfied. The rainy season can start in April and extend into October. All the Lanna courses are drenched, the rough is high and wet and you can plug every shot. It’s not unusual to be unable to find your ball in the rough on the fairway side of the cart path even when you’re sure where it was hit. You might take two pitch outs to clear such rough when you find your ball. When the course drys out, the rough becomes manageable though difficult. In late March, until the rains come, the rough burns out, there are television type roll outs on the fairways, the rough is playable, the Asian tourists have gone home and you might have the whole place to yourself. It’s very hot and the locals tend to play, if at all, only in the very early hours.GOOD POINTS – the fairways are wide and the greens are large; manage your game and you can score well. The caddies might be the best in Chiang Mai, helpful and knowledgeable IF you ask them. If the caddy is new, she will get help from the other caddies. If the caddie says aim your putt there, you hit it there. The greens are hard to read; the caddies are not always correct, but they are far better than your reads will be. During the hot season, green fees are far more reasonable.BAD POINTS – the greens are the slowest by far of the major courses around Chiang Mai and are inconsistent. If your shot is out of position, your score can add up quickly – lots of bunkers (fairway bunkers often have nasty high fronts to clear). Miss a green and if you miss the greenside bunker the ball may run off twenty/thirty yards leaving you with a shot that needs to clear a three meter drop off from a tight lie, just like you see on television. There’s a reason the pros shake their heads at these shots. Play during the high season costs the most, but still a bargain compared to western fees. Most very positive reviews indicate a dry season round of golf with good reason. Play during the rainy season can leave you disappointed. As an example, my own handicap during the rainy season is twice what it is during the dry season. Play a round during the pre-COVID high season (late December through February) and a five-some group in front of you of resort golfers might make you lose either the rest of your hair or miss your return flight home.
Well, this is an excellent golf course. The problem was that management put a 5-some ahead of us. We all had carts and caddies, nevertheless an 18 hole round took 5.5 hours. So the on course experience was awful. it is hard to convey this in words. We would wait at the tee for 10 minutes while the 5-some hit shots all over the place. Then we waited 10 minutes on the fairway, then another 10 minutes to putt. The 5-some knew we were there but didn’t seem to care. It was so frustrating waiting for them on the green. One bloke would putt. Then after 20 seconds of standing around another one would putt. We asked the caddies if we could play through but there seemed to be some sort of politics involved. Apparently there are caddie hierarchies and ours were not high up on the pecking order. So we waited and waited. This is my friend’s favourite golf course in Chiang Mai but I will never play there again. I thought Thailand was a first world country with respect to golf but I guess I was wrong.
The golf course is nice (27 holes). The fairways are not difficult to find, but the greens are not easy to attack. Carts and caddies are compulsory. Equipment rental is expensive but they have new equipment. The caddies are ok, but not always fluent in English and sometimes fresh. So you may not get much advice.
Playing golf in the middle of A Thai golf tournament. It’s not something you ever want. So the Golf Course arranged a 40 person golf tournament and didn’t tell anyone else making a tee time that they would be playing immediately behind a group of 40 golfers in a tournament. We waited 10 minutes on the first hole and 15 minutes on the second hole and we’re now over half an hour and just teeing off on the third hole. I think it’s wonderful for them to have a tournament. I also think it would be wonderful if they informed other golfers of what was going on before they choose to spend a five or six hour round here.
