10 thoughts on “San Kamphaeng Hot Springs

  1. The place is well maintained and clean considering the cheap entrance fee they charge Thai nationals like me. It’s a good place to cure body aches although I only spent 1 hour there on the way back from a day trip to Mae Kampong Village.

  2. We took a public yellow songthaew at the riverside of the Warorot market. The fare is 50 Thai Baht. The journey took an hour. The entrance fee to the hot spring is 100 Thai Baht for foreigners. This hot spring spreads out over several acres of gardens with lovely bougainvillea.we saw two geysers shooting up into the sky. Next to it is the pool of hot spring of bubbling water. We bought a basket of medium size 6 eggs for 40 baht and hung the along the hot spring to cook for 15 minutes. We ate them thereafter. They were delicious with no sulphur smell at all. We then walked around the gardens and visited the mineral swimming pool. Then we went to the stream with various temperatures ranging from 40C to 55C. It was relaxing and quiet as we went on Monday. We then took the yellow bus back. Morning bus runs every half an hour between 8.00am and 12 noon from Warorot. Coming back is every hour. It was a good day out. I highly recommend.

  3. Nice stop off to boil some eggs and soak your feet. You can also swim, buy food and get a massage.Place is well maintained and clean. There is however dual pricing for foreigners.

  4. Once you understand it is a natural born process you can start to appreciate what you’re seeing. Otherwise it can just look like a load of baths and fountains heated up by the pipes around you everywhere. You can however tell it’s the real deal by the sulphur smell and the history is interesting.

  5. This is a place that would appeal to families with children, or for school excursions or a day out with friends. There are several winding streams of heated water where you can soak your feet in (they’re hot! At between 45 and 50 degrees celcius) and also a separate area to cook eggs in. There are also several geysers for photo opps. Generally a fun place where the kids can run around in and where adults can just relax. Nothing too exciting, just a nice rest stop.

  6. Great place to hang out. Buy your eggs and cook them in the hot spring. Kids loved it.For extra money you can go to the swimming pool

  7. We personally didn’t think this was worth the journey from Chiang Mai Old Town. There isn’t much to do. You have to pay extra for everything – pools, baths etc. Boiling eggs was fun, but other than that, we felt it was rather boring.

  8. A great spot to unwind! Lots of bathing options and great massage! Also plenty of food options and you can even boil your own eggs in the hot spring

  9. VERY few attractions contain a warning that you may be boiled alive if you stray too close!San Kamphaeng Hot Springs is one of them and with good reason.Geysers spout, pools bubble and swirl with steam and it is easy to see why a false step could be fatal. But tourists will be tourists and the frisson of fear caused by wooden signs warning that beyond this point temperatures reach more than 105C only seems to encourage them to take a dip. That is because a concrete “stream” containing run-off from the hot springs has been carefully graded.Signs show just how hot it is at what point and when I sat down and took my trainers and socks off I was just the right side of 45C.That was plenty hot enough for me and for the first few seconds I wondered if I had made a terrible mistake.Fortunately my legs acclimatised themselves and it soon became very pleasant sat there on the side of the stream under trees, watching large numbers of other people doing the same thing.Toilets are situated towards the back of the site and are clean and well kept while there are commercial opportunities to do everything from buying a cold bottle of water to buying eggs to boil in the hot springs.Well worth a visit and make sure you bring water or buy some. A lot of sweating is involved with this place!

  10. Entry of 100B for adults (50B for children and seniors) gets you into a large area of well-kept grounds. For no additional cost a person can soak their feet in concrete canals where hot water is flowing, and/or boil eggs in pools of extra hot water dedicated to this task. There are seating areas and rope mattresses on metal frames for relaxing in the shade (if you can find an open one.) There are food and massage concessions, etc., and a kiddie playground. Plenty of toilets scattered around. If you want to go into pools of hot water you must pay extra. There is a large pool of warm water (Definitely NOT 41 degrees C as was indicated by a (erroneous or fake) thermometer above the pool on the day of our visit. A ticket for the large pool costs 100B for adults (no discount for seniors). A nice option for couples is to opt for a small private pool at 65 B per person (130B for 2 persons). (Dec. 2024 prices.) In these, water temperature can be controlled via hot and cold taps. (The hot water is VERY hot, so be careful). The private room was adequately clean, though not pristine. We saw some small bungalows for overnight stays. They looked OK, though they were right adjacent to a busy area. (Perhaps there are others a bit farther from the center of activities.) Riding a motorbike or scooter to/from Chiang Mai is possible (about 1 to 1.5 hours each way, riding leisurely). Getting into and out of Chiang Mai is busy and unpleasant on a 2-wheeler, but the small roads outside of a 10km perimeter from Chiang Mai are lightly trafficked and very enjoyable. A sign at the entrance to the hot springs indicates that there is also public transportation to/from Chiang Mai from early morning to mid-afternoon.
