Muang On Caves is perched on a picturesque hilltop overlooking Thailand
An hour away from CM on a scooter. We did not rent a torch and had no issue seeing. I have never been in a cave anything like this, worth going as it is very special. After the a half an hour in the cave we went up to the top of the hill, loads of stairs (20mins stairs climb) but very quiet, we met no one on the way up. Nice view there too.If you have a full day must visit the hot spring 5 min ride (100bath plus 50 bath for the big thermal pool).
We were alone in the cave. Nice bike stop next to the water springs. Panorama over the surrounding. Don’t forget a tourch.
The size of this cave surprised me. Its was far bigger then I thought. It takes a climb up and tough climb down to get in but it is really worth it. Main attraction is a giant holy sparkling white stalagmite in the middle of the cave. It is really stunning.
Great place to come visit, entry is only 30 baht. Yes there are a few stairs (my Garmin said 55 flights) but take your time enjoy the views it’s worth it. The caves are well lit with loads of shrines etc.
This doesn’t cost much to do and is amazing to see inside the mountain. Comfortable footwear is required as you need to climb down quite a few steps where there isn’t a lot of room. Also if you are lucky you will see monkeys outside playing in the trees.
This isn’t a particularly popular attraction, given that there were very few local and foreign tourists the day I was there. Even my driver and guide told me this was only his second time there. It’s not a destination attraction, but as a pit-stop, it’s definitely worth your time. I was surprised by how small the entrance to the cave is, just like a regular door. What’s more surprising is that it’s not a cave where you are able to walk into on flat ground; this one requires you to climb down very steep and narrow stairs, and not just one flight. Because the stairs are built around rock formations, be prepared for a bit of body contorting as you descend. Some of the spaces are extremely narrow, so if you’re a plus size, this may be a real challenge. Like other caves, be amazed by the stalactites, stalagmites and rock formations on the cave walls. And because this is Thailand, a cave is never complete without religious icons and figurines. This one even has an electronic fortune teller. It’s very serene and peaceful inside the cave, and cool too, despite the hot weather outside. I would say this is a good place to start the day, before moving on to other sights.
