Highly recommended.Staff so… nice!Best experience in Chiangmai. We were very happy to join your class today. My sons love your sticky rice, so yummy! Thank you so much.
Aop and her assistant Ela were wonderful! I was not sure how my 3-year old son would do in the 5-hour cooking class. He actually had as much fun as I did. There were times he enjoyed cooking with us, and other time he went off to play. Aop and Ela were very attentive and great at making sure my son was cared for and having a great time, while teaching me what I wanted to learn. In short, they made the entire time intimate, relaxing, informative and joyful. Aop was great at explaining things in detail, with simplicity and clarity, also interestingly. It was the highlight of our visit in Chiang Mai so far. Just as what they say on their website, they do it with all their heart. I felt like we were family and good friends already! Their facility was beautiful, relaxing and comfortable, with a nice garden. The only comment I have is that if you want to learn a desert, you may not want to choose the rice crackers. It takes 2-day to make them so it would not be feasible to do that in the class. What I got to learn in the class was to deep fry the bought crackers and cook brown sugar as toping.
This was the second time my friend from Japan and I experienced this cooking class. We had so much fun the first time that we had to come back. We cooked Pad Thai , Curry, and Moo Steak. Aop san and her assistant Ela taught us each step and the five hour cooking class flew by because we were having a lot of fun. Definitely a place to visit and experience if you come to Chiang Mai. The environment where the cooking class is also great. You will feel relaxed and calm because it is surrounded by nature. Thank you Aop san and Ela san 🙂 we’ll be back for our 3rd time soon!
I’m so glad I found this cooking class. Aop picked my me and my friend up from our hotel and took us to her local food market – already I felt that I was experiencing the ‘real’ Chiang Mai – not another tourist in sight! We cooked Green Curry, Pad Thai and – my favourite – Northern Thai Curry. It was such a unique, personalised experience – with some really nice little touches a long the way which I’ll let you discover.Aop is so much fun and has such a warm personality – we laughed so much! At one point we misunderstood an instruction and starting to pick all the tiny little seeds out of the bananas (for our dessert) and we were all in hysterics when Aop noticed what we were doing! Aop’s assitant, Ela, was also very sweet and showed us around the garden where we picked our herbs and other ingredients.I can’t recommend this experience enough to anyone who is interested in Thai food and culture, but also for those who want to have a bit of fun and learn something new. A truly wonderful experience, I shall never forget. Thank you Aop and Ela.
Aop and assistant Ela made us feel so welcome. They were so informative and their instructional techniques were excellent. Our visit to the market, picking herbs and actually cooking made our experience complete in Thai cooking. We look forward to sharing our Thai cooking knowledge with our friends back home.I would highly recommend attending Aop’s Calm Cool Cooking Class when visiting Chiang Mai. Great experience makes for great memories. I will treasure her Cook Book , my apron and pictures of our time together!!
We were recommended to try this cooking class by our Airbnb host. And we were not disappointed. We were collected by the cooking school in an open air truck (the kids loved this!) and were greeted by our delightful host. She was just so sweet…and lovely with our 4 children, aged 16, 13 and twins aged 11. Our first stop was a local market where she took us around and bought some of the ingredients we would use in our dishes. (Oh and I forgot to mention that we had pre-selected what we wanted to make). She was great about explaining what everything was and how it was used. We then headed back to the cooking school and were taken out into their organic garden to pick some of the produce we would use in our dishes. This was great for our kids…especially as we live in a high rise in Hong Kong so it isn’t often they get to do this! Then it was time to start the cooking. We made pork satays, green chicken curry, pad thai noodles and mango sticky rice. All of the children were involved in the preparation and also got to cook at their own station! It kind of felt like I was in Masterchef!! Although we would have all been eliminated as we weren’t that great!! We ended up being there longer than the original time that was allocated (originally was from 2pm-7pm but we didn’t leave until around 830!). But the staff were so accomodating and our cooking teacher was just SO lovely. It really was a highlight, especially for our 11 year boy who has cerebral palsy, but LOVES cooking!! Definitely recommend this to anyone visiting Chiang Mai. And one last thing…we all received aprons and a cookbook to take home!
There are many cooking classes in Chiang Mai but not many of them welcome kids.I am so glad we found Calm Cool Cooking Class. Aop, who is the instructor, speaks perfect English. Besides, she is a mother herself so she understands very well that kids should be welcomed in the kitchen! The satisfaction and joy for kids to enjoy the meals prepared by themselves cannot be described in words!I found this to be a very enjoyable yet informative experience for the whole family from young (8years) to old (70 years)!! It is also a very interesting way to learn about the Thai Culture from a different angle.
Teacher is pretty and patience! Even thought we are not good at cooking you still teaching us with her sweet smile. We have a great time in class. 🙂
I have searched a lot to find a typical thai cooking experience and not one of those big cooking schools where you have a class with 10 or 20 more tourists (and this schools are everywhere in Chiang Mai). I found just what I wanted: a small class that included a market visit (and a real thai market, as I read in the previous reviwes here on TA: we were the only tourists there!) and a small cooking class (i think the max. is 4 people – for example if you’re a group of 2, you’ll probably have 2 more people in your class), but as we were a family of 3, we got a private class and it was perfect! The market was really nice. Aop, the teacher, explained us a lot of things and answered all our questions (her English is really good). The people there are really friendly. Then we visited a coconut “factory”, which was also pretty interesting because we learned how to get coconut milk/coconut “powder” from a whole coconut. Then we visited their organic garden with Ela, her assistant, who is really friendly and polite as well!We cooked our dishes and ate them in a really peaceful environment. Then, they gave us a free beautiful book with some recipes they have (including the ones we cooked) and let us take the aprons we used as a “souvenir”. They also gave us some lemongrass tea and thai desserts in the beginning so that we could try other thai desserts besides the one we were going to cook (we did the delicious rice balls in coconut milk).Aop is a really great person, and we started laughing and having fun with her since she picked us up at the hotel! I highly recommend this cooking class, we had a perfect morning and we learned so much about Thailand and its culture.
Aop taught us a lot about Thai cooking, from ingredients like herbs to technique in cooking. She was also very enthusiastic in sharing her own exp! What so unique about this class was its small-class teaching, so you will never feel being left out.
