  1. I have to admit that I was shocked reading some reviews. Perhaps it is because of the activities we chose but what we saw was caring Mahouds with their wonderful animals. We did not watch any show or ride any animal, we just fed them, wash them and had some photos with them.It was basically the top moment of our trip to Thailand and I highly recommend learning more and interacting with these wonderful animals.

  2. My second time here with friends and each time the park and activities get better. From Elephant rides and Ox cart rides to floating down the river on a Bamboo raft. From the Elephants playing sports to painting pictures which you can buy to many other tricks they have learned. You can feed them, You can hug them and you can give them money which they take in thier trunks and give to thier trainer. Great for the entire family. A must do.

  3. Please, don’t go to Mae Taman Elephat Camp!Elephants are chained for most of theirs lives and stabbed in order to force them to perform uncomfortable tricks for tourist. In nature elephants don’t carry people on their backs or perform uncomfortable tricks. Elephants in Mae Taman Elephat Camp are very stressed. Elephants in captivity have high rates of painful and chronic health problems. Don’t support this!

  4. It’s like a circus. Elephants trained to do tricks. One had chains. I felt really sad about this place and the situation of the elephants. I recommend a sanctuary instead.

  5. ANIMAL CRUELTY. Please stay away. These elephants are chained with no room to move. They cannot move and they are beaten with a sharp metal hooks to perform their so called “tricks.” The poor animals look miserable and you can tell their “caretakers” abuse of them. The caretakers drag the elephants by their ears to force them to perform. Please visit a sanctuary instead. There are plenty in Chiang Mai. Do not support businesses that abuse these poor creatures.

  6. I had been here before to feed the elephants but we had friends visiting from Bangkok and overseas and that wanted to experience getting up and close to Elephants and also riding them. They took us across the river and up into the mountains and back again. The experience was quite relaxing. From what I saw the elephants seem to be looked after well and had good connection with their handlers and were very gentle to interact with. Staff were also very friendly. You can also visit a local Long Neck Karen Village from here and also go rafting from here if you like. You can either rent a car and drive here or rent one of the red buses in Chiang Mai town centre to take a group up or go on a fixed tour.

  7. Visiting our friends ( one of whom is Thai) today ( Feb 19/23). They have been here several times and we were happy to experience close interaction with these beauties. It’s obvious the animals were well cared for and were affectionate with their trainers. OK so there’s a little bit of circus type tricks, such as painting, a picture, playing soccer and harmonica, but don’t you teach your dog to set up or speak before getting a treat? The trainer we spoke with had been with this particular elephant for 20+ years and it was obvious there was genuine respect and a bond between them and feeding them bananas and sugarcane is their treat as the animals need over 600 pounds of food a day . The animals responded to voice and hand signals when they’re trainers took them into the river to bathe They took the time to make sure the animals were well watered down, splashing behind their ears, etc. I even saw one trainer, wipe the elephants eyes as the water had splashed into it. The animals are rotated so that they don’t get bloated from the treats or over exposed to tourists. This particular camp has been here for many years and if you go, you can see they are well cared for and appreciated.

  8. Mesmerizing experience like going back in time 500 years and a real feeling of Thai Culture and History. You can’t “do it all” without including an elephant ride through Thailand’s jungles mountains and rivers. Very skilled and traditional.

  9. We were part of a tour of 36 people and our guides are well educated about this area and selected this site because the animals are well cared for. The guides were great and we enjoyed our visit. I know people have made bad reviews, but we had nothing but a good experience.

  10. Maetaman Elephant Camp & Bamboo Rafting aka Maetaman Elephant CampWow. Incredible. Indeed.Come here if you want a great Elephant journey. Really. Being this was our first elephant experience I cannot compare to any other elephant camp. There are many in the area. I was advised this was the best.Being a kind person, I really did not see any animal abuse. Really. The elephant are trained well and listen good. I’m told the elephant are trained by xx people who are able to speak their language. Incredible insight. We enjoyed everything. The riding was a little scary because of the height but once you realize that these elephants are no joke you rider with confidence. Great overall. Food, elephant show, ride, we’re all professional done.FYI, the buffet lunch was excellent. Make sure to purchase the buffet lunch.Hint: buy fruit at stand to feed the elephant. They really love their fruits. Tip your elephant guide!Highly recommended
