  1. My group of four somehow managed to score a day where no one else signed up for a tour, so we got to enjoy a very relaxing and intimate day with the elephants (including a baby!) one-on-one. We fed them, walked in the forest, played in the mud, and took a bath in the river with them. They are truly majestic and playful animals, and I feel so lucky to have had this day with them!It was really important to us to find an ethical elephant tour business, and to the best of my knowledge, this was it. The owner said he had several elephants that were living in various other tour companies, but he wasn’t happy with their treatment so he was slowly bringing them back as he made his own park big enough for them. There was no riding, and I never saw the elephants being treated poorly. The tour folks took lots of pictures throughout the day, and we were able to download them from Facebook once we got home. The meal provided was delicious, and we got to try some fruits we hadn’t yet seen (we were in the middle of our stay in Thailand). The park itself was beautiful and peaceful. I would definitely recommend this elephant experience! Visited June 2017.

  2. A great experience. Hotel pick up and drop off really good but more importantly the elephants seemed relaxed and happy. Getting in the water with them was amazing and our guide Sam was a local, he was really friendly (as were all the staff) and knowledgeable. Great lunch too! Highly recommend

  3. Ethical sanctuary where you can tell they really care about the elephants and know each of them very well. Friendly, warm people and the elephants looked happy!

  4. Of the two weeks, and 4 cities I visited in Thailand, this was by far the greatest thing I did while there. The drive takes about 1-1.5 hours way up in the mountain and is so scenic and beautiful. The sanctuary is run by a family of the Karon tribe and when you’re there you feel like family. I HIGHLY recommend the full-day tour. You get to spend so much quality time with the elephants, with some time to relax and enjoy being in nature. The family cooked us an incredibly lunch which included the best noodles I ate the entire trip (and I ate A LOT of noodles!!). You instantly can tell that the elephants are very well taken care of and treated with love and respect. They are just happy, gentle creatures and you form an instant bond with them (feeding them bananas helps too!!).Do not leave Chiang Mai without experiencing this, it’s truly one in a lifetime!!!!

  5. We stumbled across this tour from dropping into a tour shop after being told our top 2 preferred ones were unavailable. We took and risk and are so glad we did as it was such a smoothly run tour and great value for money. The people from the Karen Tribe were the nicest, most welcoming, friendly people! We didn’t waste any time and it was straight into the elephants as soon as we got there – there were no restrictions, just trust between them and us. On our half day tour interacted with the elephants way more closely than I had expected – feeding, cuddling, washing etc all while these gentle giants roamed completely free. We were also given random facts and photos were taken and provided on Facebook free of charge. The day was topped off with a (unexpected) home cooked lunch!! Loved it, the BEST way to finish the year. Don’t hesitate to book this brilliant tour!

  6. Anyone wanting to see elephants in their natural habitat, I highly recommend you visit Elephant Dream Valley. These beautiful creatures are well cared for, in the safety of the sanctuary, which is a 2 hour drive from Chiangmai (mostly off road by 4×4) deep in the heart of the jungle. These elephants do not work, so there are no rides and no tricks, but more importantly there are no chains, no whips and no ropes. They are free to roam wherever they want, whenever they want.Visitors are made welcome, however, you must realise that there is no set itinerary. Our day started with an introduction to the elephants and information on their background (age, gender, name etc). We were then given a uniform of the local Karen tribe, to wear so the elephants could recognise us as friends. We then spent over an hour feeding them, getting to know them and taking lots of pics. After that, the whole day was dictated by the elephants. When they walked, then we followed, when they stopped , then we stopped. If they go in the mud bath, then you can too, when they go in the river to cool off, then you can too. An amazing experience for elephant lovers, fantastic to see these beautiful creatures so relaxed and happy.Thank you Piyanarth Sutthiwate for arranging the day and everyone at Elephant Dream Valley for your hospitality ❤️

  7. Elephant Dream Valley Sanctuary was truly an ethical sanctuary for the elephants. No riding them here. We did enjoy feeding, giving them a mud bathe, playing in the water and hiking in the woods with them. It was a unique laid-back experience.

  8. I had such an amazing experience with them! We could feel how genuine and well intentioned the team is. We learned how to feed elephants and to take care of them, and could also take a bath with them. For lunch, we were served amazing food and while the elephants were eating as well with us in the background.I truly recommend, and I hope I’ll have the opportunity to go back again.

  9. Had an excellent experience and the early morning to ourselves to feed and walk with two elephants, mud bath, then river bath. We did have another group with young children arrive afterwards, so things changed a bit as the younger children started to get a little pushy with giving elephants attention. It was still a great experience, and we were able to also meet a toddler elephant. This spot seems less busy than others I would guess, which can be a plus I’d think.
