My husband and I went to Thailand for our 15-year wedding anniversary. This cooking class was a wonderful and fun experience where were able to learn about local Thai ingredients and cooking techniques. We learned to make various curry pastes, curry, fishcakes, pad Thai, sticky rice with mango, as well as a few other dishes. I appreciated the effort to feed the body as well as the mind (with education) and creative spirit (with the beautiful presentation). I learned everything I needed to be able to recreate these wonderful dishes at home. Normally I don;t care for Thai food in the U.S. but I learned that what is prepared in Thailand is quite different because they aren’t catering to the western taste buds. This is the Thai food that I love, made with real coconut sugar and not missing any of the essential sweet, spicy, umami, salty, and sour. It was well worth the it and I was grateful for a little lesson on Thai food and culture.
If there is something to do on Koh Chang, it’s to visit this school.The place is very nice and quiet but the host is just amazing, she is so sweet and nice, you can see she loves what she is doing.You don’t just learn how to cook, you also learn a lot of things about food nutrition but also Thai culture and plants. I didn’t know there were so many rice species in Thailand.The result is just stunning, plates look more like an art frame than food. And once in your mouth, wow!Thank you, Ya!
The cooking class was so much fun. Ya is a gifted teacher and loves to explain everything about food and how to be creative with it. We had the evening class and we learnt to make a lot of Thai dishes with a creative touch. We also got a cookbook to make the dishes at home. We had a lovely evening!!
I did Ya’s cooking class solo in 2017 and it was so great that when I visited Ko Chang with my family this year I brought them as well. We’ve done cooking classes all over the world and this is our favorite. Ya is WONDERFUL with a great sense of humor and a truly intuitive, top tier chef. She speaks English very well and was a joy to cook with. You walk away with great knowledge of Thai cooking culture and a gourmet meal that was one of the best Ive had in Thailand. Could not recommend this class more. Blue Lagoon is also a lovely setting. A+++
This cooking class is fantastic! If you love amazing food, learning about the local culture, and have a passion for cooking, I’m certain you’ll love this class. Ya is an incredible chef and you can tell she is extremely passionate about cooking and teaching. We made several Thai dishes, but to my surprise they were all very gourmet/ 5 star Thai restaurant quality. It was truly a treat of an experience! Everything we made was so delicious. Also quite a beautiful setting, right on a peaceful lagoon. Don’t miss this if you’re in the area!
