You must do the VIP encounter. It is more fun just picking what you want to do and for how long. It was great to create the paste for the elephants too and rub them with it. The little one was a little crazy and even ran over a tourist at one point, but the staff seems to treat them very well and handled the situation well. Very cool to walk through the wooded area with 3 of these beautiful creatures. They are allowed to stop and eat and play without interference from the staff which was great!
First off they pick you up and drop you off from your hotel which is so nice. When we got there, the elephants are just walking around and not cooped up, they are just roaming around doing elephant things. We got to feed them, they love bananas, and they take it right out of your hand. You get to pet them, they are so gentle and majestic. After lunch we went on a little stroll through the bush to find where the mother elephant and her baby went which was cool, although I stepped on an ant hill which kinda sucked but it wasn’t too bad, I expected them to hurt much worse. After we made an elephant oil mud bath and got to apply it on the elephants to keep their skin free of parasites, then got in the water with them and cleaned it off. So essentially we gave the elephants a massage and spa day. There is absolutely no riding here, most of the tour guides are volunteers and do it strictly for their own love for the elephants. This 100% is an elephant sanctuary and retirement village, and your ticket and donations go towards caring for the elephants and buying other ones from logging camps and circuses so they can retire and live in the jungle like they are supposed to. If I go back to Phuket, ill go again to see Cherry grown up (she was around 3 when I was there). I cant stress enough that you should go here and donate to a good cause. Everyone was so nice and they email you all the photos they take of you for free. I am in love with this place. There are so many places to ride elephants that keep them chained and this is not one of them. Thank you so much to our guide and everyone involved in the process it was amazing.
Great Phuket exploring tour with Elephants. Great and caring staff!Perfect hospitality!Unforgetable trip!
Hands down this is a must do experience. These are rescued elephants and they are just beautiful. We did the half day tour , that gives you up close and personal with the elephants, you get to feed them(you purchase the milk as it is not included), then you change and then get to get in the water and bath them and lastly get a lesson in mixing up a bug concoction to paint on them. There is a great lunch supplied and lots of iced cold water and face towels. There is a free singlet shirt which is good to wear in the water. Just remember to take towels for after your shower if you forget you can purchase towels there. If there is one thing you do in Thailand it is this, we have made a moral decision to never ride an elephant and contribute to their pain.
Ok what wasn’t to like here even when it was torrential rain at the end of the day it didn’t take the shine off . You get to feed ( want to give milk you pay extra not a lot but just be aware ) the elephants bananas and sugar cane , go into the water with them and wash them , make up a bug scrub ( smellsLike a delicious curry 😂) and slather them with it . It is just a fun interactive day that hopefully benefits the elephants. The don’t look to be chained up or look to be submissive to mimic too many reactions for travellers . ( yea they give you a hug but it seems to be for a treat than being beaten into it like you get a feel from some places I saw . You also get fed a meal and get a t shirt free . They will try and sell you a video and photos of your day but not pushy about it .
this was one of the best experience in my life, not only for the elephants care but also for staff, so kind! and the lunch was great! thank you so much ❤️❤️❤️
These wondrous mammals will make you smile all day . Look into their eyes and you will melt with affection . You can totally see they are well looked after and money you spend to be with them for a few hours is money well spent . Look around you and the work they are doing to improve the elephants 🐘 lifestyle. We loved 🥰 every minute with them and the highlight of our stay in Phuket 🙏🙏
What an amazing experience. I wanted to see and possibly interact with elephants, but I was also very conscious about welfare and so I was keen to go to the right place. I certainly did not want to ride on elephants or see them tied up or doing tricks etc.Our concierge recommend this park and it didn’t disappoint. The elephants were not only gorgeous, gentle and well looked after animals, they were free to roam around and were not tethered or locked up. I could tell they loved the keepers and loved interacting with the public. If they had enough, they would just walk off. The guides were very knowledgeable and funny. We got to prepare food for them as well as a past to paint on their skin to help protect them from mosquitoes. We then went into a mud pool with them which was most enjoyable (I think the elephants enjoyed this more than we did lol), after hosing them off we bathed with them in a larger pool.A buffet lunch was put on which was surprisingly nice. All in all it was a wonderful day, I loved it. Just a shame I couldn’t smuggle the baby elephant back home with me.
Long post but PLEASE READDo NOT visit this park if you really care for animalprotection and ethic treatment.I will get to some points in detail that left me thinking critically of this place.1) When we left the vehicle and went to the check-in area, we were immediately greeted with a small cage of a mother and her baby (1.5 months old). According to the guide, it’s their second day in the “sanctuary”, that’s why they are not free and in a cage. There is a warning sign to not go too close to the mother without food. They were “rescued” from a private person that held her as a pet. Some critical thinking:IF they are newly rescued and the mother is very protective of her baby.. WHY are they placed right at the entrance for everyone to see and cause such stress on these animals?Wouldn’t it be safer, smarter and less stress for the animal to be placed somewhere further away from all these people and tourists? I can’t see the benefit for the animal here2) The guide calls for “cherry” and an elephant comes running down the street even making noise. This is “cute” for many people, but NOT how elephants are and should be. The slogan of the park is “where elephants can be elephants”… So that’s a lieAround 20 people are surrounding this ONE elephant that is visibly stressed.3) we are guided to more “baby elephants” whose mother is mystically in medical care and is not able to provide milk, therefore the visitors are invited to buy a bottle of milk for 300 bath to feed the baby and donate to expenses of the medical treatment. There are 3 young elephants aged 1.5 years to 4 years. So realistically, they have different mothers, however the guide did not answer the question where the mother of the others are/were.4) at this point we stopped participating the tour and waited at the lunch area, but we kept observing the park and here are some thoughts:The elephants are in small cages and only brought out if there are visitors for a certain activity. As an example, the 3 babies are brought out to feed milk, 10mins later they are in the cage again, walking in circles or throwing food around. As soon as the next group of visitors arrives, they are brought out again. We saw different humiliating things they did with the elephants, on is “hugging” and “kissing” the visitors on command for a photo, or squeezing their trunk while bathing to make visitors wet and laugh.. How anyone can find this funny is below me..Staff is also not very friendly and they talk down to you as if they are the greatest caretaker in the world. They do not like to answer questions though, since they can’t reason..Some elephants show signs of maltreatment or unethical care such as the head wiggle and side-to-side dance. Eve if we give the benefit of the doubt that this has been caused by things BEFORE they got rescued (which is possible) the CARE and SANCTUARY does NOTHING to help them ease and lay-off their habits. They do not offer alternatives such as trees to scratch, lots of space to walk or anything. The elephants wilm still remain the rest of their lives on a concrete floor with no natural shadow, flowing water or activities besides the feeding and posing for tourists. Also, the “Elephant Wildlife Sanctuary Phuket” and the “Elephant Retirement Park Phuket” are next to each other and owned by the SAME COMPANY.So you can guess how much is actual animal welfare and how much is pure money making machinery
This was one of the best experiences of my life. The elephants were amazing. We got to feed them and bathe them. The buffet lunch was delicious. And the guide took lots of photos of us for free. I highly recommend!!
