About Elephant Care Park Phuket

A hundred years ago, Thailand was home to approximately 300,000 wild elephants. Unfortunately, the population has drastically declined, and today, there are fewer than 1,500 wild elephants remaining in the country, alongside roughly 3,500 domesticated elephants. The growth of tourism at the end of the 20th century has led to significant changes in how elephants are perceived and treated. Once revered symbols of strength and wisdom, many Thai elephants now find themselves in the role of performers, entertaining visitors in circuses or carrying tourists on their backs.

After enduring years of heavy labor, these magnificent creatures often face numerous challenges, including health issues and inadequate living conditions. At Elephant Care Park in Phuket, we seek to change this narrative. Our sanctuary is dedicated to providing a safe haven for elephants, where they can live freely and heal from their past experiences. We focus on ethical care, promoting a deeper understanding of these intelligent beings.

Visitors to the park are encouraged to engage in educational programs that highlight the importance of conservation and respectful treatment of elephants. Our knowledgeable staff is passionate about sharing the stories of each elephant, emphasizing the unique personality traits that make these animals so extraordinary. By fostering a space of compassion and respect, we strive to create lasting connections between humans and elephants, ensuring a better future for Thailand’s beloved giants. Through our efforts, we hope to inspire a movement toward more humane practices and greater awareness of the challenges these majestic animals face today. Your journey into the world of elephant care begins with us—join us in our mission to protect and cherish these incredible beings.

  1. We stopped in by taxi, not on a tour. What we observed: looks like the elephants are treated like show ponies. Kept in pens and forced to hold still for up close pictures. I think most sanctuaries still have a way to go in terms of treating the animals with respect. Tourism has moved away from elephant rides but probably needs to give up the chance to bath them in mud and feed them treats too.

  2. The elephants are used to make money with car load after car load of tourists shuffled through to feed and take photos. The poor elephants were just forced to go around in circles from one group to the next. They were not living in their natural environment like we were led to believe.

  3. This was one of the best days of my life! Loved every minute of the half day experience. The team clearly care about elephant conservation and made each visitor feel like they are playing an important role in helping with their vision and purpose. I would definitely go again

  4. Great place, very friendly staff. a lot of elephants. You can feed and take photos from it. They showed a very small elephant calf, which is 2 months old. After watching, they fed me watermelon

  5. Great staff , excellent team. Very welcoming, and very attentive . I would definitely recommend it. It is a wonderful place to visit with children as well asPeople of all ages.

  6. What an amazing day!!! The team obviously care very much about the welfare of elephants and have a great deal of knowledge. I’d never ride an elephant after hearing how cruel it is. From making the protein balls, feeding the elephants, then learning how to cook traditional Pad Thai the whole experience was WOW!! The elephants were friendly and playful – especially the baby. Our guide, Khatow (not sure how to spell) had good english (we were the only non chinese speakers) and took excellent care of us. The food was delicious and they catered for hubby who is a coeliac (gluten free). I will give a warning though, their idea of hot and mine are not the same … the Papaya Salad was chilly HOT! I cannot recommend this trip highly enough. Its close to Phuket (others at resort spent hour or more to get to theirs) and great value. We did the half day where you do EVERYTHING. Protein ball making, feed elephants, mud bath/clean/shower elephants, swim with them, then cooking lesson and food. JUST DO IT, you won’t regret it.

  7. You never quite know what you will get with animal sanctuaries but really pleased to say that it was clear animal welfare was at the forefront of what the team here do. They really make sure you have a unique experience, from making the elephant food, to feeding the elephants, a brilliant cooking class and then getting sick on with cleaning the elephants in the pool. Prepare to get muddy and wet for a totally immersing experience. The hosts were brilliant and no hard sales, everything is included in the price. Definitely our best trip yet in Thailand

  8. This was an amazing experience. Maybe small but we had a chance to do everything we wanted and they took very good care of us. It was an unforgettable experience.

  9. Amazing day. It was everything we could have hoped for. We chose the half day experience which included feeding the elephants, washing and bathing them along with a lunch which we cooked ourselves after a cookery lesson. The elephants are well cared for and the staff are passionate about their welfare. The money raised from admissions is used to rescue elephants from the logging industry, elephant rides and circus type shows. We really enjoyed this fabulous experience with these gentle giants.

  10. What an amazing place. The staff were incredible and the elephants were simply out of this world. You can tell how well looked after they are which is the absolute priority. The half day trip includes an information session from the tour lead (who is very good), preparation of the food for the elephants, feeding the elephants, mud bathing and showering the elephants (getting proper mucky as well) and having a swim with the elephants. Then you get all cleaned up and have a Pad Thai cooking session which again is great fun. A really well run establishment where it isn’t overcrowded to just generate revenue. Loved every second of it.
