Assumption Cathedral is perched on a picturesque hilltop overlooking 23 Oriental Ave Bangrak, 10500, Thailand
Located down a small alley, this church sits between Assumption University and a small square/parking lot. While the facade indicates that the church was recently built, the roots are much older. Go past the fresh exterior and check out the beautiful interior which is a bright and colorful escape from the dingy alleys outsides. There is beautiful stained glass. And, if you catch the church during a mass, please be respectful.
I really love this place as it is so peaceful. On the last day in bangkok, I just by accident go to this place and the space is quiet to relax and communicate with God. Thanks!
Assumption Cathedral is located in Bang Rak District, Bangkok, Thailand. It is a Roman Catholic church which was constructed from the request of French missionaries and completed in 1821. The cathedral was reconstructed many times. For example, during the World War II in 1942, the church was seriously damaged by the bomb, so it was restored and partly refurbished in 1980s and 1990s. Stained glass window are used in the cathedral today. The cathedral was visited by 2 Popes, including Pope John Paul II in May 1984 and Pope Francis in November 2019. I visited the Cathedral during the Holy Week. The cathedral was a very beautiful architecture. There are stained glass windows around the cathedral which told us the stories from the Bible both old testament and new testament. On those days, I thought the choir sang so sweetly and peacefully while I was attending the masses. I really recommend you visit this Cathedral. It is opened every day for sightseeing, or you can attend the mass which is held on Saturday 5 p.m., and Sunday 7 a.m., 08.30 a.m., 10.00 a.m. (English Mass), and 5.00 p.m.
The Romanesque architecture of the cathedral is so breathtaking! We spent as much time attending the Mass as we did taking photos. To top it all, the priest was very friendly and welcoming and he made time to meet and greet as many people as possible, talking to them and blessing them. We were also fortunate to be blessed by the priest.
We came here because we had gone to have breakfast at the Mandarin Hotel. The cathedral is not a minute away from the entrance to the Mandarin Hotel. Unfortunately, the cathedral was closed the day we visited. We wanted to visit one of the 3 orthodox cathedrals in Bangkok. Quite beautiful on the outside.
The Cathedral have an English mass at 10am Sunday and it is airconditioned. And it was a beautiful Church!
It is big and beautiful inside and outside. The colorful stained glass windows showcasing events from the life of the Jesus Christ are stunning. The ceiling is ornate.
The location is a bit difficult to reach but in the end, it was worth my visit. It is like I am in Italy. Very beautiful crafted.
We went here to celebrate easter Sunday. The cathedral’s architectural design is great. The inside is full of gold designs. There is also a shortcut going to the main road through the school entrance.
