  1. East Asiatic Company was an international conglomerate which had operations all over the world. It dealt with shipping, trade and industry. It handled it’s asian operations from Bangkok and this building was it’s head office. The company also had it’s trading port on the Chao Phraya river where the Asiatique Mall stands now. It shipped out Teak from Siam and imported other goods. The East Asiatic Company building stands next to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel on the Oriental Pier. It was built on classic Venetian lines in 1884 and has the company’s name on it’s facade. You can also see the company’s logo on it’s gable. The company was the brainchild of Captain Hans Andersen who was a Danish sea captain. It is a beautiful elegant building.
