Khlong Bang Luang Floating Market is perched on a picturesque hilltop overlooking Soi Phetkasem 20 Kam Phaeng Bang Chak Temple, 10160, Thailand
we really enjoyed the tour, specially my kids. we experience many local foods, but didn’t buy any souvenirs because bit expensive than other places. but the place was really nice and we talked to the people, they were really helpful and friendly. some offer my kids some food and fruits for free. really nice place and people.
Rather than a true floating market, this market is located adjacent to the canal. Lots of artisans selling handmade items, some food stalls and lots to see and experience. A fun way to spend a few hours. You can also catch a longboat here to travel either up or down the canal to other markets.
We reached BTS Bang Wa by train, then took a taxi to the wrong location. Taxis heading north need to make a U-turn, then turn left on to Phet Kasem Rd, and turn left again at Soi 28 (it turns right and runs parallel to the main road); probably better to walk to Phet Kasem Rd. alongside the blue BAAC bank building and flag down a taxi there. The market operates at weekends. We did not see vendors in boats, but there was some action on the shore. Seeing no taxi, we walked back to BTS Bang Wa.
Had a bitter experience with a boat driver during the boat ride along the canal. The amount was fixed before the ride and during the ride, he wanted the payment and at the end of ride, demanded more. Hence, please fix the amount in writing before the trip.
Unfortunately, there is no more floating market at this location. We went on a Saturday and thought it was because it was the Vesak holiday that there was no floating market. But we spoke with a vendor and they said it isn’t here anymore. There are still food vendors along with neighborhood and an artist alleyway, and the Artist House and a copycat place to that next door. You can still buy fish food to feed the huge catfish and carp? in the river too. It’s unfortunate that the lack of the floating market affects the surrounding community. The Artist House (where you can paint, do beads, etc.) was packed, and the place next door that offered the same thing was very busy as well. You can easily waste an hour or two doing some crafts at these places if you can get a spot on a busy weekend afternoon.
It is not the kind of buying things on a boat from vendors in other boats. There is a lack of tourism and local vendors so is probably a shadow of former glory(?). Water is polluted and some shops are closed.Grace saver is the restaurant and a souvenir shop. There is a boat ride that i did not go for.
I really like this place. It’s a peaceful community and comes with cute souvenirs. There is also a boat ride to see the atmosphere. It’s really nice. And another fun activity is stringing beads to make bracelets. and coloring tree baskets
Anyone with even the slightest tinge of creativity needs to add this artistic spot to their travel itinerary. This craft weekend market sits right along the khlong (canal) community. Hip cafe and restaurants lined up along the neighbourhood. There’s a boat tour along the canal allowing you to enjoy another side of unseen Bangkok. Highlight is the centuries-old house turned gallery, with local artwork, photography & a puppet theater. The Artist’s House, otherwise known as Baan Silapin is over 200 years old. The House is found tucked away behind a few winding sois (streets) in Thonburi, Bangkok’s old capital. A handful of signs along the way let visitors know they have come to the right place.
The whole trip was spoilt by lying local tour package sellers saying that this place can only be accessed by boat. Which you can go there via Grab (with a luxury car at 10% of the price) Any long tail tour is just a scam, and dangerous there are no safety measures whatsoever. After that you will pass through smelly canal, pathetic make shift one boat floating market treating tourist as idiots. (30 years back floating market is not as pathetic as this) Dilapidated houses (trying to show how the local stay) which is ironic as most countries want to display the best to tourists. Going to this market you see things that you can get at Jodd Fair, at Icon Siam with better experience. The boat tour requires you to tour the area within 30min which is pathetic. If you wish to enjoy the place just take a Grab and take your time. At least the build up to the place provides a nice experience rather than seeing broken houses, smelly canals and dirty water.
That’s a very good experience,It’s amazing how the people living and make a business and also how’s organized, it looks like confuse but they have the rules traffic and respect each other’s. There are so many things to buy like a souvenir, food and clothes.I’m totally recommend!!!
