Tuek Daeng is perched on a picturesque hilltop overlooking Tambon Pak Nam Laem Singh Near the pier, Thailand
Tuek Daeng (which in Thai literally means “Red House) is 30 km from Chanthaburi town, and unless you are visiting nearby Laem Sing Beach, it is hardly worth the travel time from the city.Having said that, the history of this place is fascinating. It is a single-storey red brick building with a red-tile roof, and to emphasize this, it was painted in red (which probably accounts for why it is known as Tuek Daeng). It was a barracks for French soldiers. It was built in 1893 at a time when the French, who had colonized Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, also occupied this piece of Thailand, claiming that it was actually Cambodian territory.
An worthwhile visit, nothing much to see apart from an old cannon, but it does give a history of the French presence and a good place to see before going to visit the small but interesting Khuk Khi Kai (notorious French Prison).
The building was looking very nice and attracting from the distance. But it wasn’t clean enough and not well maintain. The information provided wasn’t very clear and the staff didn’t speak English well. You need a local friend to visit this place if you want to know more about Tuek Daeng and didn’t really read about it prior visit.
This place was built by French military to be their base. After the war, this place was used as the library and then the tourist spot in this present. Nothing much inside except the old French cannon.
Old canon inside with history Wish the description was in English Old building Not maintained very well as it should be Bit dirty but good to see once if in the area Don’t make a special trip Fairly average
The building and architecture are nice to see; there are many historical happenings in the region and the building but there is a lack of proper documentation or display, at least not in English, hence it isn’t easy to learn what had happened here in the past.
A very historical site. Have a read about it first to understand. The Laem Sing beach is nearby which is a must for a crab lunch.
This place is nice spot for your photo shoot with historic red one story building as a background. Big old cannon inside with information and picture display for you to explore. There is one local uncle selling fresh whole coconut and the taste is real local with just THB 30.
This building was constructed as a barracks during the 1890’s occupation of eastern Thailand by France. It later became a public library and is now a small museum. Unfortunately there are no explanations in English, and the building is showing signs of wear.Of passing interest only.
The building is not worth to make a trip there to see it, but if you happen to be in the area worth a detour. It is a French colonial building formerly used as officers barracks in 1893. There is a small museum inside, unfortunately explanations are only in Thai. The building is not in a very good shape, a cannon inside may provide some good selfies
