  1. Yes….This is the city’s naval or pallars…. Walked here from wat phrathat doi tong….Now heading to the military museum

  2. Does not seem to be a popular tourist destination, it is a series of carved stone pillars on top of Jom Thong Hill, whilst here you can get a good view of Chiang Rai and the Kok River, also Wat Phra Doi Chom Thong is located nearby

  3. This place is not much visitors during the day I visit but still foreigners visit there. Visit this place you can see some part of history of Chiang rai province.

  4. I loved this, otherwise unremarkable, spot since you get a real sense of history. I hadn’t understood the navel aspect (read ‘belly-button’, as in centre of the body) but if you’ve stood atop Greenwich Park, beside the Royal Observatory and you are at Ground Zero for the UK, this astrological feat of engineering and beauty is worth seeing. The Wot below (& the accompanying story) puts this nicely in perspective

  5. This is a nonevent. I am rating this a 3 only because the adjacent temple is worth a visit. Views are pleasing, not breathtaking.

  6. THIS high point just above nearby Wat Doi Tong is an interesting place to see.The Navel represents the Hindu mythical Mount Meru, encircled by 108 pillars and five canals symbolising the universe and the Five Great Rivers. The elevated floors of the attraction suggest the six levels of heaven and the other three states, form, formlessness and nirvana.According to Lanna belief, the width of the navel pillar is as big as five fists and the same height as the King.Apparently the people of Chiang Rai are fond of paying respect here and often sprinkle lustral water at the city navel.Visitors coming here will not need more than 15 minutes to appreciate what is on site and my advice is to make your visit in tandem with Wat Doi Tong which is less than 100 metres away just down the hill where refreshments can be bought but where I did not see a public toilet.

  7. Not much to see here. I wouldn’t make any special trip to see this. It was just ok. There is a plaque on the fall for the fallen Navy

  8. the unique ancient outdoor implemented city pillar, that might be the specific historical place in Thailand.refer to the nearby narrative board had mentioned this ancient city pillar was built in Khmer art, Phnom Bakheng period (around 900 A.D.)just wondering, the influence of Khmer empire ideology had impacted in this particular region which quite far away from its originating place.

  9. When the King Mang Rai founded the city in 1263, he made this hill the center point, or spiritual center of the city. In the model, it was a spiritual navel of the universe. What you see today was reconstructed in 1987 on the occasion of the 60th birthday of King Bhumibol Adulyadej and the 725th anniversary of the City of Chiang Rai
