I agree with the other reviews that the animal conditions here are overall bad especially compared to zoos in more prosperous countries. However, this zoo is a great place to spend the day with children who might not appreciate the museum and ancient ruins so much. There are paddle boats (not well maintained, but some usable), a big kiddy playground, and you can feed some of the animals. It is quite fun to see turtles, lizards, giant catfish, monkeys etc. The poor quality of the otters’ enclosure did make me sad.
There is a nice variety of local wildlife, and you can ride a little train or rent pony carriage to get around. It’s not a huge place but the entrance price is low
genuinely the most upsetting and unpleasant zoo i have ever visited. why on earth would any one want to see orang-utans wearing clothes, being pulled around by their hair? all in all it was a depressing day. should be closed down. poor animals. nothing nice to say about it!
it a ok place to visit once, they have many animals, but it like any other small zoo. some of the animals look sick or under cared for. it better to go to safari world in bangkok. mid priced for the area.
This Lopburi zoo (open 8.00-18.00) was once famous nationwide for its resident orangutans Mike and Susu, their April 1996 “wedding” photo published on the front page of many newspapers. Yet when Mike died in 2002, so did the zoo’s popularity. Ironically the local government could fund a new paved road for visitors but couldn’t invest in any infrastructure for the animals, no wonder why they all look sad and skinny. If you care about them, don’t visit this “prison.” You might cry as some previous reviewers did!
We have never seen such a terrible zoo. Animals more than bad treated. Soo small cages. I cried inside!!! Please dont go there. We just went there because there should be a monkey Hospital. ..this is closed and nothing in it.
Actually, I really love going to visit the zoos because I love animals and birds. Last time, I went to visit this zoo and I felt amazed, so I would also like everyone to see as what i was seeing there. You will be amazed too, I hope
A nice zoo. And yes, we bought the picture they took of us at the beginning. I was lucky to have my nephew give me a personal tour (he’s been to the zoo a hundred times). We saw some animals we don’t see at the zoos around here.
Read other reviews had spare time so decided to go to zoo with open mind. You are in rural Thailand and not to expect Western standards. The animals looked OK and the zoo was attempting to do their best but there were some very sad exhibits due to the cages pens. Would not say go or don’t go. At 30 baht entry at least we were helping a bit. When entry don’t go straight but go right for the zoo bit.
Please do not visit this awful zoo. It needs to close. It’s treatment of the animals is shocking. Please don’t give them your money.
