  1. I liked the fact that this deserted temple was overrun by nature. It gives a nice Tomb Raider/Indiana Jones feeling. You can check this if you are in the area.

  2. The attached photo shows the location of this temple, adjacent to the train station (the train is headed north). With diverse phases of development (late Ayutthaya period, plus during King Narai’s 17th century rein) and decline, this is another part of Lopburi’s rich heritage. This site is in advanced stage of decay.

  3. Lop Buri is an historic town in central Thailand that traces human habitation back some 4-5,000 years. The town is full of historical relics, sites and museums that trace the millenniums of human occupation. One of the more interesting for history buffs is Wat Nakhon Kosa, because its development embraces three distinct eras. The earliest was the construction of the large pagoda, which was built in the Dvaravati period (7th-11 centuries), when the area was under strong Indian influence, including the embracing of Hinduism.Further development came with the addition of a prang in Khmer style, when Lop Buri was under the suzerainty of the Khmer Empire from the 11th to the 13th centuries). Finally, the temple was restored and expanded during the reign of King Narai the Great, who was king of Ayutthaya, but who made Lop Buri his second capital and spent much of his time here.Although Wat Nakhon Kosa is in ruins, you can still see the three distinct styles of architecture.

  4. These ruins lie just beside the railway track. There is no ticket and you will often find kids hanging out here in the evening. You can see motifs of Buddha in one or two places especially up high.

  5. This is an ancient Hindu Temple with an old stupa from the Dvaravati period and a spire (prang) from the Lopburi period situated at the front. Mostly just bricks and walls remain and a few Buddha images. Not really worth a special trip.
