You can see many shops on the railroad side and the platform like Mae Klong Market. When you leave the station you can see a lot of markets dealing with the scent of tides and marine products. You will not encounter tourists here. Also, there is no guide board in English. Please get help from Google Map when you are in trouble. One hour by train from Bangkok. I recommend it to those who want to feel local atmosphere of Thai.
Pure Thai, no ferang here. Get off the train at Wongwai Yai, follow the main road out of BKK for a few hundred yards, first right, over the footbridge and into the alley to Wongwai Yai station. For 10b you get the one hour ride to Mahachai. This is a bustling port that has lots for sale, mainly centring on fish. It is an interesting place to visit if you wish to visit a real Thai place. There is a nice park, a seaside port view and an impressive Wat, Wat Pom Wichian. It is worth spending half a day of your time.
We came here from Mae Klong. Took the train to the terminal station at Ban Laem, walked to the pier, take the ferry to the other side of the river to reach this market. Watched the varieties of fresh and dried sea products on sale. The stall keepers are very friendly, and we took photos to our delight. End of market is the Maha Chai train station. The train leaves at designated time to Wongwian Chai Bangkok.
