Had an amazing ‘off the beaten track’ tour of the island with the fabulous Mr Gift. Showed us some unique insights into the island. Had a brilliant cooking session with his mum and we cooked a scrumptious Thai lunch. Highly recommend it.
We visited the store on the off chance of buying some gifts for home. Instead we met a lovely man called Mr Gift and his beautiful Aunty. His Aunty produces all the Batik creations in the store. I ended up producing my own piece with the wax and inks. His Aunty then dried it and finished it for me to pick up the next day. What an amazing experience and totally unexpected.
Where to start… From picking us up at our hotel to dropping us off, Gift was nothing short of incredible. Not only is he a Koh Yao Yai/Noi local, but he is deeply connected to the community and knows the whole island region inside out – which makes for an incredible an insightful day. He took us to both ‘hot spots’ and hidden gems away from other boats, so we could snorkel in peace – with him joining us to point out the best fish and things to see (he’s also an aquatic scientist). The food & drinks provided throughout the day were totally delicious – his mother made us beautiful lunch and we had fresh cut fruit (with leftovers to feed the monkeys)! The fact that the whole day is private is not only memorable, but very good value for money – particularly if you look at prices for any bigger group tours in the area. Thank you, Gift, for such a memorable day. We’ll really cherish the memories!

Village Tour – great tour by a local guide, we gained rubber and made rubber by ourselfes, made Batic, saw a rice field and produced rice, had a delicious lunch with amazing view, visited a lobster farm by boat, went to the beautiful Lam Had beach and even more. 100% local, 100% great experience!
