We had read about this in BK Magazine Online in an article of “28 awesome new reasons to visit Chiang Mai”. It was hard to find (no street signage that we saw) and in fact we walked past it twice before finding it. According to the BK Magazine Online article the venue was open daily from 6pm. We arrived at 6:50pm, and were surprised to get a pretty disinterested reaction from staff. We ordered drinks which arrived whilst staff were putting on make-up, eating, generally doing anything at all but making us feel welcome. Staff need a lesson in hospitality. We won’t be going back.
The place is amazing! A little haven of art and good taste. It has a delicious patio and on the menu, always great attractions, for those who really enjoy good music, culture and art.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a review area where the people either gave it five stars or one star. Thape East is a 5 star venue because it has a soul. But on some nights, during parts of the low-season, the place wont seem too amazing. But this is one of those very special music venues ANYWHERE where you, if you hit the right night, will feel enchanted…if not blessed. This is obviously a labor of love venue.
A hard to find little place, I went on a Thursday night around 9pm, and o boy, a band called “earth and ice” I think it was, 5 musicians made this place come to life, a blues and some jazz, great show, beers are cheap, cocktails a on the sweet side for my taste, but nice to enjoy, funky people and rustic industrial decor, definitely a spot not to be missed
As many people have written, Thapae East, often hits the right spot with people or they find it a bore.As just a bar, it hasn’t got a lot to recommend it, unless you want a quiet drink off the main roads. When there’s music on, the act itself will decide whether you like it or not. If it’s popular, the place fills up fast, and you might have to drink outside. I’ve just visited it again tonight, and there was music on, but only about five people there. Pretty typical.
It was much smaller than I expected, but it was a cool place to hang out and listen to some great music in an intimate setting.
There is much to like about this intimate, out of the way bar and music venue. The exposed brick walls and low ceiling give it a sorry of “Greenwich Village” type vibe.Tonight we were there early for the music and the bartender kept us entertained as he mixed drinks and visited with us. When the music began the place filled up quickly for good reason. Reasonable priced music, unique atmosphere and good music!
the cutest little bar, tucked just off the main road! the people were friendly, the drinks were good and the music was great! in a very lovely part of town ❤️
