Prior to our first trip to Thailand and Chiang Mai, I struggled with how to access a quality, individualized tour of some of the sights we wanted to see in the Chiang Mai area, My traveling companion and I did not wish to be part of a larger, organized bus type tour. We were hoping to access an individualized service which would structure some of our time and leave us to discover the area on our own and partake of our experience of the Thai people and culture.I came across the web site for this private day tour service through the Thailand Tourism Authority web site. The site offered a variety of day tours and our options were partially limited by a six day stay. We were interested in temple tours and I had an interest in a couple of rounds of golf. The site offered two half day temple tours around Chiang Mai and we combined them into a full day tour. I also was able to procure tee times at Chiang Mai Alpine and Highlands courses through our day tour provider. Timmy was quick and responsive in her communication with us. We were able to get good information and she understood what we were looking for. She provided price quotes which were accurate and did not require any kind of later adjustment to compensate for gaps in the communication process. Fees were reasonable and a very good value for the quality of service she provided. She greeted us at our hotel on our arrival and met us on the days of our excursions at our hotel and was on time. She was a good driver and her English was excellent. She seemed to grasp intuitively how much time we were wanting to spend at sights we visited. She added in an ethnic village tour on the day we were driving to a temple outside of Chiang Mai and it was a good, spontaneous addition. She arrived on time at the hotel and transported me to the golf courses and brought me back to the hotel. Her prompt arrival the mornings of golf contributed to getting out a bit earlier and ahead of larger parties. She provided us with lots of helpful tips of where to go and how to get there. It was unfortunate that we did not have time to go on the Chiang Rai excursion. The quality of our experience with her in Chiang Mai would make her tour my first choice if I returned to the area and wished to go to the Chiang Rai area. We both appreciated her professionalism and on a personal note, we liked her a lot. She took time to do small things like get us mango sticky rice and some fresh exotic fruit to sample during our time with her. She also took us to a fun little restaurant in the old town for our lunch. This was an ideal arrangement for two experienced adult travelers.I am hoping that Tripadvisor reviews would assist others visiting the area in finding such a good resource for a stay in Chiang Mai.
I arranged a tour with Timmy after hearing good things from a friend. We chose tour T02 from the website and decided to do it with a group. Timmy arranged our pick up for the next day. She sounded lovely and I wish we’d chosen to do it with her but we did trust her to organise this for us and the tour is from her website. The transport was in the back of a covered ute, I could handle that but when we are going to be traveling long distances at high speeds it would’ve been good to know in advance. We had 7 of us in there at the beginning, it was a good number and we all had a little bit of room to breathe. We had to wait for an hour while one of the couples went to the long neck village while our guide/driver slept in the back of the ute, which was a bit weird but I could live with this as well. The elephant treck was where it started to go downhill. I’d been informed of the use of hook knives prior to and Timmy was right, they only use these when the elephants misbehave and that didn’t happen more than once and it was gentle when it did. Thank you for that 🙂 Unfortunately when we got to the farm there were only 3 elephants and the unfriendly staff there expected 3 of us to get on the back of one which was impossible. This meant one of our friends were left behind on the trek. The trek was around a course on the farm which was ok but not the trekking experience I’d hoped for. The unfriendly elephant farm guy that stayed behind at the park then made our packed lunch, the hygiene of that was very questionable. We then headed back to our transport where we were driven up towards the driver’s ‘restaurant’ at the start of the waterfall walk. We stopped 10mins earlier and the driver got out and walked away for 5 mins so we jumped out thinking it was where we were stopping for lunch to find that the driver was arranging to pick up 5 more people. He told us to get back in the back and then without saying anything proceeded to load the other 5 people in the back, acting like nothing was wrong. We questioned if everyone was getting in and he nodded like it was completely okay. One passenger was sitting on the folded up tray of the ute holding on while we drove on. We stopped for lunch and went to the waterfall. That was all great, a nice walk through the bush with a swim at the end. White water rafting followed and we (all 12 of us) had a great time. The white water is pretty tame but you get to see the locals out enjoying the river and it was a great time. It was topped off with a 1.5hr drive back to Chiang Mai with, you guessed it, 12 people crammed into this vehicle. Disappointing regard for customer comfort given by the driver and I know there is a lot of competition in Chiang Mai for very similar tours so this was unfortunate.
My husband and I hired Timmy for two days. She picked us up in Chiang Rai and took us to Chiang Mai. The next day we had her pick us up at our hotel and take us all over Chiang Mai. We had a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend Timmy to anyone needing a reliable, courteous, kind, safe driver for this region of Thailand. During the initial booking, Timmy answered all of our emails promptly and her english is very good. She was always on time and had great recommendations as well. During the time we spent with her, she was able to teach us a lot about the Thai culture, take us to the best site seeing places, as well as great authentic places to eat. She is a really wonderful nice lady and I would highly recommend booking her well in advance.
As part of 2 weeks in Thailand in February and March of 2015, my wife and I engaged Timmy for 4 days of private tours from February 26, 2015 to March 2, 2015. She picked us in Chiang Rai, took us to the Golden Triangle, drove us to Chiang Mai and then organized 3 full days for us in the Chiang Mai region. I wanted to summarize 5 things that earned Timmy the excellent rating. First, she was always on time, polite, knowledgeable, pleasant, and safety-conscious. Second, when there things that I specifically wanted to see in the middle of a tour, she would accommodate. I wanted to see, for example, the University in Chiang Rai. Nothing was a problem. Third, her car and tour van were clean, comfortable, and well-stocked with cold water. Fourth, the pace of her tours was exactly what we were looking for. Fifth, her English is excellent. In addition to being excellent value for money, Timmy simply has a wonderful, charming, and engaging manner. It is sometimes not easy being with the same private tour guide for 4 days (or with the same tourists, to be balanced). If I had known beforehand how good Timmy was, I would have stayed longer. She is truly first-rate.
We enjoyed our two days of touring with Timmy during our trip to Chiang Mai. She was on time and answered all of our questions about Thai culture. She was very good at communicating over email before we met – she helped me figure out the best sights to see for me and my family, including my two young daughters. She was very friendly and courteous and was very kind and helpful with our girls. We had our best Northern Thailand meal with Timmy- she took us to a great restaurant that was quiet and authentic. Overall we were very pleased with our experience with Timmy and we would recommend her to anyone traveling to Chiang Mai in need of a tour guide.
Spent a few days in Chiang Mai recently, so much to see, so little time, so we decided to use “Timmy” for a couple of tours around the area. Timmy speaks perfect English, she is polite, efficient and informative, and good value for money, we wont hesitate to use her again if and when we return to Chiang Mai. Highly recommended.
We contacted Timmy a week or so before leaving for Chiang Mai, asking for a quote for a half day tour to Wat Phra Doi Suthep, Wat Pha Lat, and Orchid Jade Factory. She replied immediately with some questions, then gave a price, and we confirmed. She met us promptly at our hotel, drove to Wat Pha Lat, and gave us a guided tour ( we actually preferred this to Doi Suthep, very peaceful). We then went onto Doi Suthep, again with Timmy explaining the significance of the various temples. She was then very patient while, according to hubby, I tried on every earring in the jade shop.We found Timmy very friendly, with a good sense of humour, and an excellent driver. Should we return to Chiang Mai, we would definitely look to book her for further trips
