10 thoughts on “Chiang Mai Night Safari

  1. Do not go!!! This place is very unethical and inhumane to the animals. As someone who used to live in chiang mai I know what to avoid. This place is for tourists that don’t know what’s going on behind closed doors. The tiger cubs that you get to pet and pay to pet, are drugged to make them calm. Enclosers are tiny and smell of urine is very strong. If the animals are doing tricks or in a show, they are being beaten to be able to do those tricks. I do not recommend going and I tell friends who plan to visit chiang mai to not visit this place.

  2. We visited about 9 years ago and this place was just okay. We returned only to bring our children and the whole place has been reinvented. It is organized and friendly now. It is organized as they give you a stamp ticket letting you know where to go and when to go. The shows are actually now entertaining too. Food prices are usually higher at attractions but it wasn’t necessarily here at all and the food quality was actually pretty good. I was pleasantly surprised by new experience and would recommend it for any group of people even those with young children. Don’t come as late as we did or you might miss many attractions.

  3. We went thinking we would see animals in their natural habitat, it seemed as if the animals knew we were coming & then at the end there was tiger show was just cruel. DONT GO

  4. Although this is a great zoo to go round on the truck at night we didn’t realise it was not ethical as our hotel didn’t not tell us. The tiger show especially was hard to watch as the tigers were clearly scared of the keepers and we then regret going. There is hardly anywhere to get food. The water show is okay and it’s nice to see so many animals but a lot of the pens were really small and when you drive past they shine a light in the animals faces. Not sure I would recommend giving money to a organisation like this if I knew before I went. The elephant and bear were also trained to wave at us which is clearly not natural.

  5. The animals like the tigers lions elephant and bear are forced to wave and do unatual behaviours like an old fashioned cruel circus. When people were giving food many people were aggressively and painfully slapping the giraffe on the nose and head. The pens were too small with no enrichment and little shade from the sun. They keep blasting music so loud that I was feeling deafened, I cannot imagine how the sensitive hearing of the animals felt. I was so disturbed that I had paid money to go here. I hope the giraffe slams it head into the guests (ADULTS & KIDS) that think it’s funny to slap their nose and head. The guides don’t care and say nothing. At night during the trolley ride they shine light in the animals face and you are swarmed with bugs. Tigers are the main attraction but they do not educate not to go to tiger petting zoos or take pictures with tigers and their cubs. I hope the government shuts this place down. I went because I saw that it “meets animal welfare guidelines” but that is a lie.

  6. On arrival to night safari it was very impressive, and well organized, everything after that went downhill, it was like a circus, the enclosures were tiny and some of the animals did tricks in the enclosure as we stopped and watched from the tram, ie the elephant did a little bow and the bear stood up every time the tour guide said stand up, the tiger show was tigers doing tricks with extremely loud music… it’s entertainment for humans and it seemed that welfare of animals was the last thing on the list… I would not go back or recommend it…

  7. The night safari was fantastic, with giraffes and zebras coming up to the bus to say hello, and the tiger performance was really amazing. Afterwards, it was simple to take a tuk tuk back into town. It is advised to have dinner at the buffet restaurant located in the parking lot before entering the park, as there aren’t many food alternatives there.

  8. Don’t waste your money, read the reviews, omg I have never seen wild animals trained to beg for food , absolutely horrible to watch , one day one of the keepers will pay as think they are forgetting they are with a WILD animal , the lioness looked in pain with her leg when she was walking, please stop doing this , jumping yes but not begging on their back legs for food or made to jump in the water, try looking at other zoos in the world , Chester zoo in the uk is the best and a dam sight cheaper with ethics how animals are treated

  9. The worst parts were the tiger show and tiger exhibition. In the tiger show the music was too loud disturbing both human and animals. The MC was extremely terrible. Her voice was very loud and incomprehensible. We could not make any sense what she was saying. It could have been much better if she kept quiet. The way all tigers were treated at the tiger show was unkind. They were lured to jump by over hanging chicken bones. The tiger exhibition rooms were poorly maintained and unsupervised. All visitors were allowed to yell and make noise as they please. Some of them used flash camera. There was totally no oversight. Toilets were very dirty although there was a sign that they were being cleaned hourly. In fact it looked like they have not been cleaned for the whole day. Eva, the super star tiger has been overly promoted. In fact visitors can hardly even have glimpse of her.The better parts were Savanna Safari and Predator Prowl where you can see wildlife in a short distance.

  10. It wasn’t that much worse than other zoos, despite what some of the other reviews claim. You can walk around and see the animals at your own pace if you prefer. If you go on the little buses you get to see the bigger more exotic animals, be advised the volume from the speakers from the tour guide is extremely loud, so I would not recommend it to babies or really young children. And perhaps avoid the tiger show, it’s crazy how they get big cats to obey like dogs, that’s what my party told me, but I also avoided it because volume was way too loud for a baby. Overall, if you’ve done all the other tourists things in Chiang Mai and is desperate for one more, sure it’s not the worst time you’ll have. But if you don’t go, you wouldn’t have missed anything.
