Thanks for the great experience to North of Thailand. Children were very happy to play with elephants, dive into hot springs, learn how to plant the rice and stay overnight at long neck village. Team was very pleasant and flexible for any ad hoc requests. Defiantly will come back!
Taking this tour was the best thing that could have happened to us during our 2-week trip to Thailand. We spent 4 days with our 4-year-old daughter, who genuinely loved and enjoyed every minute of this tour through the beautiful landscapes of some hidden corners of northern Thailand. Everything was well-organized and our guide Tony was a very pleasant and knowledgeable guide, with kind manners and a big heart—qualities that are particularly important when you travel not only to visit places but to connect with local people and offer them concrete help, something Thailand Hill Tribe Tours promises to do without disappointing expectations. We had unforgettable human experiences. For instance, I will never forget the evening spent with a family of refugees from Myanmar, cooking dinner together while our daughter played with the village children. A magical evening, filled with songs accompanied by guitar and small stories. Overall, the trip was a window into other worlds, a very diverse tour that fascinated both us adults and our little girl. The experience of playing in the mud while planting rice in a local farm’s rice fields, then preparing lunch together, climbing a sticky waterfall deep in the forest, meeting a Kayan family with whom we shared lunch and the art of weaving, visiting the magical temples of Chiang Rai, exploring street markets, and eating hot pot on the banks of the Mekong… these are just some of the highlights from this beautiful, ethical tour that respects local minorities. It’s a style of travel that not only creates great memories but also helps the local population. Bravo, bravo, bravo to everyone, and a huge thanks to Tony, who took care of us the whole time and won over our daughter’s heart; to our driver Pet, always kind and helpful; and to Melissa, who, from the very first contact, was present, responsive, and prepared, making sure we could experience all of this!
The era of the women creating the Karen Hill |tribe artwork is slowly disappearing. Most young people do not want to learn to art of weaving. This will become a lost art soon
Thanks to Melissa for organizing, and to Hanee and our driver Boi for our terrific three-day trip around the northern hill tribes of Thailand. It was clear that you guys have a great relationship with the people in the villages and it was wonderful, as well as humbling, to spend so much time with them… Masu’s Kayan Karen meal at her homestay was one of the best meals we had, and the trip overall was the highlight of our time in Thailand! ❤️ Mel
We had a wonderful tour and had many memorial experiences including meeting authentic hill tribe villages and people. The White temple and Elephant Sanctuary were also incredible experiences. Our guide Hanee and driver Ron were amazing and went out of their way to accommodate and be flexible with my elderly father. What I loved most was that we were helping local villages directly and they are being looked after by this tour company.
It was a fantastic day starting with the elephant sanctuary. It was the in-depth experience that I wanted. Cooking and eating with the local family was not only educational but down right fun. Our guide and driver made the trip so much fun and safe. I am 79 years old and felt well cared for while climbing the water fall at the end of the trip.
The 3 night private tour was a special and enriching experience. Pat was our guide and he created a wonderful balance of activities that fitted with our interests and enabled us to meet and connect with local hill tribe people in a way that felt natural and respectful. We felt very fortunate to have this opportunity.
This was a really unique experience, and I appreciated that this is a company that utilizes and works closely with hill tribes in an effort to keep their customs alive. I booked the 3 Day tonight Dr. from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai. And we had a loose itinerary that kind of free flow. I did enjoy this because as things developed we sometimes made changes.I opted for hotels because I just wasn’t sure about a home stay and these were fine. They seemed a little pricey, and I had to pay extra.Surachai and the driver were really great. I learned a lot, and I loved that we actually went to the village that Chai was from. The long neck tribe isn’t really a tribe, but a family that migrated here from Myanmar. We had a wonderful meal together and the local guide walked me through the entire property, talking about the different plants and their medicinal properties. All in all it seem like an expensive trip and I’m glad I did it, but I think that I probably would’ve been good with two days and one night.Thank you!
Some great bits, some very touristy, gimicky destinations that felt very ingenuine. Our guide and driver were amazing, great, lovely people who would go out of their way to make us feel comfortable. We were expecting to stay in the homestay both nights, but was only there for one. This part of the tour was amazing, the people were so kind and friendly, and it was a great experience. The other night we stayed at an accomodation that made us pay per person rather than per room, which felt rather exploitative as we were only a group of 3 who could fit all in 1 room, but were made to pay extra. When this accomodation was discussed with us via email, the pictures provided suggested completely different rooms that what we were initially provided. We had to pay extra to go in the rooms that we were initially presented with when asked if we’d like to stay at that particular place. That may have been more the hotels issue than this tour’s however. We opted not to go to the elephant sanctuary as we are big advocates for animal agency and ethics, so were suggested bamboo rafting instead. This we were keen for, however when we arrived, discovered that it was at the elephant sanctuary, therefore we were made to support this business despite our initial attempts to avoid to.By the end of the 3 days, we were very relieved for some independence, just because of the style of the tour, we felt almost like school children again.
