My partner and I had been wanting to take a Thai cooking class together and we decided on the full day course with Chilli Club. They feel it is important to keep the classes small so the two of us had the instructor to ourselves the whole time. They have put together their own cookbook full of traditional Thai recipes that you get to take with you at the end of the day. We both got to choose 5 dishes from the cookbook to make over the during the day. I chose green curry, spicy coconut soup, glass noodle salad, pad thai, and mango sticky rice. All of them turned out great and we can’t wait to try them out when we get back home. The instructor was very helpful and knowledgeable. He was able to answer all of our questions and we got great individualized attention when cooking our meals. If you take this course be ready to feast all day long!
This was an excellent activity. We selected our entrees and then went to the market to purchase all of our ingredients. What an experience. We did this as a family, so the kids got to help with all of the preparation of the ingredients and then we cooked our dishes under the watchful eyes of incredible instructor. We learned many ways to replicate this cuisine at home, so we are excited to breakout our new cookbooks and give its try. The food was excellent and the overall experience worth doing again and again.
great experience for coooking lesson. teacher was fantastic and passionated by fresh cooking. Nice book with recipe’s. thank you. and hiighly recommended.
We left this to the very last day. Had a afternoon flight out and they accommodated us by starting the class a little early to endure we made our flight. The experience was amazing and made it seem so easy. Really enjoyed the market experience and making the food I was feeling a little ill and am so glad I muscled through it, great company as well. We have tried a few of the recipes once we got home and it’s still super easy. You must do this
After arriving at 9a.m. We were given a beautiful cookbook to pick out 5 dishes per person. After this the chef Wisutt took us to the market to buy fresh ingredients and explained what to look for when selecting fruits and vegetables. When all ingredients have been gathered we started to prepare our first dishes, under Wisutts helpful oversight. After three dishes, around 12o clock, we had a (well needed) digestion break until half past 1 when we met again to prepare desserts and snacks and learn about food decoration. We felt quite welcome and at home during the course, Wisutt was very open to questions and liked to explain quirks an manners of the Thai kitchen. All dishes were very tasty and we were able to pack some of the snacks to devour them later at night :). The cookbook we received is very well structured and provides you with information about all the dishes, as well as general overview of Thai fruits and vegetables, their taste and properties. Definitely a good start if you like to start exploring Thai-cuisine. Would recommend this to anyone staying in Chiang Mai and interested into tasty Thai food.
We were picked up at our hotel by our instructor at 08:30. The class started at 09:0 where we picked out 5 courses each. After 10 minutes we were on our way to the market to pick out our food. Both our instructors took time to teach us several things about the food and market. We where gone maybe an hour. We cooked 3 dishes each by noon. The instructors spent time teaching us and helping us along the way. I never felt like we were on our own and I also felt like I was doing most of the cooking. I can’t believe we cooked at ate 3 dishes each by noon. We were so full at noon we took a 1 hour walk back to the market and got a foot massage. We came back to the class at 1:00 PM to finish the class. We both cooked our remaining two meals and were finished by 3:00 pm. It was incredible and all the food was delicious. I recommend this to anyone visiting chiang Mai.
Amazing Experience at the Eagle House Chilli Club Cooking Academy! We had a bicycle tour scheduled for months. After too much travel in HOT weather we decided to take a loss of deposit on the bike tour and at the last minute contacted the Chilli Club Cooking Academy. We were fortunate they were able to accommodate us. The Eagle House is a ‘green-friendly’, 30+ years established guest house & restaurant which also offer trips and treks. (If I understand their offering correctly- not that I am an expert). However, what I do know we had a fantastic time at the cooking class! The instructor, Mr. Visutt, is an interesting and knowledgeable man who is definitely a teaching chef. You need to show up with nothing but a learning attitude & everything is provided.1. We received a fantastic (70 page glossy colored paper) book, which was ours to keep that included the following: (you want to attend just for this book)a. Eating/Table Etiquette in Thailandb. Where to shop for cooking equipment in Chiang Maic. Conversion of Weights & Measuresd. Photos of Ingredients used in the recipese. Descriptions & photos of various rice, noodles, vegetables, herbs & fruits, not necessarily included in the recipesf. Thai language tips regarding the culinary worldg. A Choice of what you want to cook: i. Including PHOTO of each dish ii. RECIPES of each dish2. The Prep Itinerary:a. Upon arrival WE decide what we wanted to cook by looking through the book (photos & recipes). b. Each person chose THREE options between appetizers, main courses, side dishes and desserts.c. Mr.Visutt made the grocery list while we enjoyed a few minutes of relaxation.d. We took an easy ten minute walk to the local & interesting market.e. He guided us through the market all the while describing items necessary to purchase, specifically to the recipes chosen, and talked about many more products in the market.f. We returned to Eagle House.3. The Cooking Itinerary:a. We sat while chopping and prepping the food, all while Mr. Visutt described how to do so with a little history and stories regarding food in Thailand. Interesting & Entertaining.b. Once everything was ready we proceed to the ‘cooking stations’.c. Cooking Stations consist of individual pans & heating elements.d. Mr. Visutt guided us thoroughly & completely through the cooking process.4. Eating:a. We cooked one item at a time and then ate it (and shared with others as desired).b. The food was hot, and delicious.5. Facilities:a. Outdoors with prep tables and separate eating tables.b. Fresh plates & eating utensils was provided for each prepared dish.c. Bottled water, soda (maybe beer, but did not consume & do not remember) was available to purchase. Free water was offered throughout, but personally not certain if it was consumable for a westerner. We had hours of education, fun & GREAT food.We were DELIGHTED to have this experience and HIGHLY recommend this professional offering.
Seriously brilliant and very affordable. A full day course you choose 5 dishes and you are stuffed full by lunchtime!
Super cool cooking class, with the best Chef! Great experience to learn in a small group how to cook Thai cuisine and buying ingredients at the local market. We had a great day, and we are so stuffed with good food 🙂
The cooking class was good and interesting, but you should be aware before booking it that the Eagle House website is pretty outdated (at least as of 11/2022), so not only is the price slightly more expensive than is listed, but more importantly, the structure of the class is now totally different from what was advertised! I’m told that the Chilli Club’s former instructor has now retired, so Eagle House now contracts with Cooking@Home Culinary School to teach these classes instead, and they no longer let you choose whatever dishes you want to cook, which was the whole reason I signed up for this class in the first place. Again, the class was fine and the instructor was good, but this is not what I was expecting, and I would not have taken this class if I had known this information.
