  1. This night market has several food stalls and it’s very popular among locals. During our visit we didn’t spot any tourist. There are food stalls along “Rachathani” temple’s fence and in the main street. The restaurant options in Sukhothai are poor.

  2. I agree that the food options are limited in both the old city and new city for tourists. Even though there is an Unesco site in the old city there are only a few restaurants / bars that cater to tourists this is still very much a traditional thai city. You don’t have to try hard to find places to interact with the local Thais here. There is a market in the morning and evening behind the main temple that is being restored. This market won’t look like the markets you see in Chiang Mai, Luang Prabang, Siem Reap or Bangkok. This is an active thai market for the thais and thus it is full of fresh fruit and veggies. 730am is great to see people and so is 430-530pm. The best time to shop is 330-430 before the thais get there. Be cautious about the food in the market if you have a sensitive stomach. It can be spicy and it is not the cleanest food. But it is authentic and worth a look. The bus from the old city will drop you off in the centre of the market ( talad ) the next stop after the 7/11 where most tourists get off. The lotus village is located on the far side of the thai market. On Saturday they used to have a walking street along the river starting at the main road around 530pm and ending around 8pm. You can’t miss it all the motorcycles will be lined up along the street. Again this is a Thai market but they have a few bands and other presentations with some of the vendors dressing up. But mainly it is a thai market so it is very small with only a few things for tourists. No wow factor here besides thai life. Good place to sample local thai foods.

  3. The night markets at Sukhothai are great for getting out and mixing with the locals. You would be lucky to see a handful of tourists at the markets and the locals are extremely helpful. The food options are very good, and I would recommend trying the local foods (although some can be spicy). I found that the prices were very reasonable for both food and for clothing while I was there. It was also great to sit down and chat with the locals over a meal. I tried the local blood sausage noodle soup which one of the local traders went out of her way to order and bring to me from another shop when I asked about what is a popular dish. I have to admit that it is not something that I would have ordered, however it was very good and cooked fresh. Tip for travelers is that English is spoken rarely in the Provence, it is worth knowing some basic Thai.

  4. Want to get the look and feel of traditional Thai living, visit the night food market. Don’t worry, yes, it’s safe to eat no matter what the paranoid tourist books say.. Behold the vast selection of snacks from savory, sour, sweet and everything in between. Meat, fish, vegtables and some things that just taste great but don’t ask! It’s a must do….. Take the plunge and enjoy the local way of living. It’s well worth it

  5. I had spend a few hours in the historical park during the day but my fiancé and I decided it would be nice to come back at night to see the market. I am so glad that we did! The market was full of activity and gave a whole different perspective on the park! There was a miss grand sukhothai pageant going on as well as a monk show. The food at the market was also very good and even though the market was small it was still a wonderful experience.

  6. Night market is an amazing place with lot of kiosks with food, fruit, drinks and also clothes and stuff which you dont need. You can try here even sushi and roasted insect! Be fast, the food is disapearing from the stands very fast! Its a pitty that there is not so many space where you can sit and enjoy your meal.

  7. JR Rzstaurant at the night market is excellent. You will find it on the street side with a terrace. Many locals come here and food is excellent at a very reasonable price. I can recommend the massaman curry and garlic peper beef…

  8. Very well and tasty market with all kind of food you like.People are very friendly overhere, amd try to give you the best food they can offer. Its very nice to walk over this market iff you are in this neighbourhood.

  9. The Sukhothai Night Market is to be found at Geolocation 17.008631, 99.819405 and shall not be confused with the food market. The night market is open longer and provides good prepared meals for take away as well as sitting down in the center of the hall. Other food boothes – not too much, only takeaway – can also be found along the main street west of the bridge.
