Local Fresh Market Tour by Thai Akha Kitchen is perched on a picturesque hilltop overlooking 50200, Thailand
Nita was our guide and she was so knowledgeable and her English was great so we could ask many questions. We had a traditional Thai breakfast then headed into the market. Anything we wanted to try was included. When it came time to pick our lunch dishes we were so full but Nita insisted we pick a variety of dishes which we enjoyed at one of the beautiful parks in the Old City. Fantastic tour that I highly recommend. Do early in your trip so you can jump straight into street food and enjoy the experience.
This tour was an amazing experience! Before we went for the Market, Niti invited us to thai style breakfast. At the market Niti would show you soooo many Vegetables, Fruits, Meat, Fish and so on.. She would tell you why those are used, prefered, the meaning of them in history, society and culture. What ever you are interested in trying, you would just do!I can not imagine, there is a compareable tour out there! I bet this is the only Fresh Market tour, which gives you sooo much for sooo little money :DBtw I won’t tell you about all those tasty, delicious, funny and weired things we have tried, you got to find out your selfs 😉
It was more than 4 hours of fun! I never imagined that tasting local foods can be so nice:) Niti, the lady who gave us this tour, explained every little ingredient of the dish and made it look not so scary to taste. We tried everything!!! From pigs brain, 100 years old egg and chickens blood to nice desserts and local fruits. This tour is really a good idea if you want to know more about Thailands culture and cuisine.I totally recommend it:)
This tour is not only about trying thai food, it is much more than that. Niti, the tour guide and owner of Thai Akha Kitchen makes the whole experience more special with her stories, knowledge and love for food. I got to know more about Thai and Akha ingredients, food and culture during this 4 hours than I could ever get by myself, for sure. The whole tour is well organized, you know in the end that you surely haven’t missed a thing. After the tour we went to the park for a picnic, but surprisingly Niti could teach us a lot on the way to the park as well, showing trees and tasting leaves which is related to the way of life of Akha people – they can use almost everything they find in the jungle for cooking. The 4 hours flies by thanks to Niti’s fun personality! This tour is highly reccomended to anyone who wants to learn and have fun in the same time!:)
The market tour and cooking class were absolutely wonderful. The teacher was friendly and knowledgeable, and there was a fascinating lesson about the Akha people at the end. Plus you get a recipe book and some samples at the end!
What a great way to start our day!!!Coffee and local fare to start the tour. We then went vendor to vendor touching, smelling and tasting the offerings. Produce was first and got the break down of the multitude of basils, chilis and mangos. Different meats and seafood were up next. I found it interesting that chicharone or pork rinds were so common. Who knew?Through the butcher we made out way to different kitchens picking out items for lunch. Our guide Niti was very personable, easy to communicate with and super knowledgeable. The route to the park was full of local plants, all which were edible. She broke it all down for us. Amazing 5 hours for sure. We choose the adventurous route with our tastings including the century egg and a blood pudding.
Great market visit and cooking experience thru the morning to lunch. Fun and friendly- great tips and yummy
Jay and his team led a fantastic hands-on cooking class which is great for beginners and pros alike. My wife and I both enjoyed ourselves and got to take to take a handy little cookbook home with us. Would definitely recommend to those visiting Chiang Mai and intetested in cooking.
We just completed the Local Fresh Market Tour led by Niti. This was such an informative and delightful experience! We began with an interesting street food breakfast across the street from the market and then ventured inside. This is a market frequented by many restaurant chefs and street food vendors. Niti infuses both knowledge and passion for food. We ended with a walk through the neighborhood and a picnic lunch with items we had picked out during the tour. Words cannot adequately express how memorable this experience was. Be adventuresome and book this tour!
The driver will come pick you up where you are staying in Chiang Mai and take you to the local market where you will meet your teacher for the day. You will learn a lot about Thai food and will try all kinds of different food at the market. You will get the real feel of the culture and the teacher explains everything really well. This is a very interactive experience and something I will remember forever!
