I’m a travel agent and tour operator, and each year bring a group of clients to Thailand. We always spend time the first day with the amazing team of guides from Windows of Thailand to help introduce the group to Thai (and specifically Lanna Thai) culture, as well as an introduction to Buddhism. Their stories are fun, personal and educational, and set us up with a foundation of knowledge that allows everything else we see/do in the day have more meaning. We visit temples, meet with a Monk (amazing way to learn about Buddhism!) have unique meals, lovely drivers, photo opportunities, and more. It’s just a wonderful experience, and this team make it all so easy, educational and fun. They also organize an early morning visit to Doi Suthep for almsing, to watch the sunrise from the top of the mountain, and further Buddhism education. Take my advice – no need to look for any other guide or service! This is the A+ team!
An excellent experience and one of the highlights of our holiday. Gin and Pot were calm patient and very professional in organising the day and guiding us to ensure we saw so many beautiful birds. Fantastic value with birding watching in the national park area in farm orchards, ancient woodland, water falls and rice fields. Local lunch and lots of fun and chats along the journey.
In early January, 2022, I had the good fortune of being able to travel to northern Thailand from Bangkok where I was visiting with family. After reading some of the reviews of Window of Thailand private tours, I booked a four day trip with this wonderful family company, asking for both birding and cultural/historical introductions. What absolute luck to have found these lovely people. Chintana knew her birds and where to find them extremely well and because her husband, Pot, happened not to have his own tour at the time, he served as her driver. He also contributed fantastically to the cultural experience, knowing the culture so well (as does Chintana) but, also, the birding experience since he loves taking photos. and for this novice, seeing his photos immediately after catching glimpses of a difficult-to-see bird, was perfect for learning the many new species I encountered. What can’t I say? Our lunches together at roadside restaurants were all excellent, the two of them were always a delight to be with, the pre-arranged accommodation was fine (the best resort in one mountain area was already filled, but that was my fault for having arranged the trip at the last minute). I was so fortunate to get a tour with these two fabulous people. It’s only because the number of tourists is so small due to the Covid pandemic that I was able to do so. I feel very lucky. As well, with their dynamic and caring personalities, both shared ideas for the remainder of my visit in and near Bangkok. They highly recommended the nature resort, Baan Maka near Kaeng Krachan National Park, for example, and what a thrill that was, too, to be able to squeeze in for two nights just before I returned to Canada. Both the national park, the resort, and the nearby hides on private properties should not be missed by birders (and other nature lovers). Only because of the encouragement of Chintana and Pot, with nothing to gain themselves, did I quickly plan and carry out the trip. It, too, like my northern adventure with them, learning more about the culture and the magnificent wildlife to be found in Thailand, made my trip , along with being with my family in Bangkok, a treasured one, forever fondly remembered!
More than we imagined! Chintana and Pot, Window of Thailand, are true treasures to engage if you are looking for an experience you won’t find elsewhere. For 3 weeks in February, 2022, Chintana and Pot guided the two of us through northern Thailand. Chintana planned our tour and Pot drove. Together they showed us many ‘off the tourist path’ sites, like hidden villages we never would know existed. They educated us about the history, cultures, religions, people and local customs of real northern Thailand. They are knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and always ready to answer questions. On our last day they exceeded our expectations by personally helping us get Covid vaccination boosters and documents we needed to continue our travels. Amazing extra help to do what we never would have accomplished ourselves. We sincerely thank them both!We highly recommend Window of Thailand, Chintana and Pot, if you want a great experience to see and learn about real Thailand.
We booked a one-day birding trip to Doi Inthanon National Park, and it was a treat from beginning to end! Chintana and Pot are warm, welcoming, and generous with sharing both the natural wonders of Thailand but both their experience and lives in Thailand. Our day with Chintana, birding in Thailand, was by far the highlight of our two-week visit to Thailand. They think of everything to make it an easy and special day. I would definitely recommend making this part of your tour!
We had only one day with Chintana and Pot in Doi Inthanon and i can say after five weeks in Thailand, it was just a great luck to find this very sympathic and professional working guides in the net. They speak excellent english and know all the places and the right time to have a wonderful day out in the nature. Even my husband, a non-birder enjoyed the day very much, thank you again for the collared falconet.
As a former ecotour operator I was very impressed with the bird tour given by Chintana and Pot. Very high calibre and interesting. My wife and I were treated to tea with Thai snacks before we drove up to the peak of Doi Inthanon National Park. Our guides were very knowledgeable and inviting. We made about 6 stops. Each one revealed different birds and habitats. Even my wife, who is not a bird watcher became intrigued by the amazing array of birdlife. I wish I could have stayed longer or booked a 2 or 3 day tour. I will definitely recommend this tour to family and friends visiting Thailand.
We are so lucky to have found this tour with Chintana and Pot! We did a day birding trip to Doi Inthanon with them and it was a highlight of our trip. It was hard to find high quality ecotours in the area, but Chintana and Pot were true experts on Thailand birds and the general ecology of the region. Their excellent English allowed us to have more in-depth conversation, and we learned so much from them- not just about birds, but also about Thai culture. Their 30 years of experience in the ecotourism industry is apparent. The day itself was impressive- they knew exactly where to take us to maximize our experience and we saw a whopping 60 species in one day. They made everything smooth and easy- from transport to providing delicious Thai food and treats throughout the day. I will definitely be reaching out if we return to Thailand again!
I first learned about Window of Thailand in a post in the TA Chiang Mai forum, then I found a listing for their business on TA where there was a modest number of reviews, all extremely favorable. Their website gives a good sense of the range of experiences this wife-husband team can offer. Their aim is to create tours based around someone’s specific interests, priorities, and timeframe, the very thing that sets them apart from other (more conventional) tour companies. In setting up my tour, Chintana immediately responded to my emails, answering questions and making suggestions. Some reviewers have described the multi-day and multi-week tours they took but, similar to other reviewers, I chose an all-day birdwatching tour. This included hotel pickup and drop off, breakfast snacks, a drive out to Doi Inthanon and environs, lunch at a rural restaurant, and multiple stops to see the birds unique to that specific area. While birdwatching had been the primary objective, it was also an excellent chance to get a taste of the beauty of this national park and highest point in Thailand. Aside from their expertise in spotting, identifying, and photographing birds, the car ride with Chintana and Poj provided a ripe opportunity for me to ask questions and talk with them about many topics related to their country – they freely shared facts and opinions about Thai culture, history, politics, healthcare, habitats and ecosystems, and the list goes on. I learned that the two of them have been in tourism for decades and that they have numerous repeat customers. Although my experience was only a single day, the day I spent with Chintana and Poj was so much more than a simple nature experience and provided valuable insights about this beautiful country that I had not expected. It was the high point of my first trip to Thailand.
We were in Doi Inthanon from 2-5 Nov 24 for a bird watching trip solely. Chintana was our guide all the way. From the time she picked us up from the airport in Chiang Mai, she has the itinerary all planned out for a full out birding experience. Our lunch was a surprise lunch cum birding experience, followed by more bird watching at the paddy fields before we got to the accommodation at Inthanon highland resort .The next 2 days were similarly packed with bird watching activities both in the mountain and at lower land. The bird varieties were such a treat for all of us especially for my son who is a bird photography enthusiast. Chintana is a pro with more than 25 years of birding experience. With her guiding we were able to see so much more than if we had done this on our way. She is super friendly and easy to get along. She provided us with a lot of educational information not just on the birds but also the culture and history of the place and Thailand .We have learnt so much from her on this trip.We will definitely hire her again when we return to Chiang Mai.
