My husband and I spent the morning with Suranat in his Basic Leather workshop. He is an excellent teacher and a wonderful host. We had a great time making our leather purses and thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Suranat while he taught us how to plan, cut and sew our creations. Plus our included lunch was delicious, and as a bonus, Suranat also took pictures and videos while we worked. Highly recommend this workshop for anyone visiting Chiang Mai – totally different and fun – and well worth it. Thanks again Suranat!
This is such a great of the beaten path experience. Its relaxed and relaxing as you create something with your hands that is beautiful and practical. Suranat Is a skilled and patient teacher and has a great sense of humor. I would highly recommend this workshop and hope to return for the more advanced class.
Suranat was helpful and kind, and with excellent English, took us through all the steps to make a small leather wallet/pouch. He was helpful and patient, showed us every step, and gently corrected me when I messed it up and showed me how to fix things. Now I wish I had the tools myself because I’d like to do another leather working project. Thanks Suranat for a wonderful afternoon (and for the great Pad Thai).

I am very happy I found the info about Suranat’s leather atelier. Suranat is a lovely person. He shows you with much patience all the different steps to create your piece.In my case – half-day basic – I made a little pouch. That’s definitely something different to do in Chiang Mai. The lunch was nice and he gave me good tips to visit and walk around in the area. I recommend!
Suranat is the most kind, personal, and patient teacher. We were looking for something different to do while on vacation and had read about Suranat Leather Studio in our in flight magazine on Thai Airways. We were 5 people, ages 15 to 70, and we all enjoyed the experience. We really enjoyed the conversation with Suranat about life in Chiang Mai and his path to finding his passion with leather. He is incredibly talented. What was nice was having a memento of our trip to bring home. It was a lovely afternoon and the Pad Thai lunch at the end was delicious! Suranat provided a wonderful experience. I can’t recommend anything better in Chiang Mai!

Completed a full day and enjoyed the time very much. Suranat made us feel extremely welcome and was so pleasant and helpful. Created 4 leather items to take home as well as enjoying the best pad Thai I have eaten and a wonderful coffee to finish the day. I had zero knowledge of leather work but had no problems following the clear directions of this wonderful man. Highly recommend you give it a try. We hope to visit again one day.
I spent a very enjoyable and informative afternoon at Suranat’s leather workshop. I learned the basics of making a document wallet which I’m rather proud of! Suranat was welcoming and professional and was good at teaching. I liked that he had a good sense of humour too, it was fun.I feel confident now to take this skill further, buy myself some tools and try this at home.
