  1. We came here on our last night in Chiang Mai because we enjoy watching dance shows whenever we travel, especially our 10-year daughter. Another guest at our hotel said that they had enjoyed the show and so we had our hotel arrange the reservation for us. When we arrived, we took off our shoes and were quickly seated in long benches (Thai Lanna Style) and tables. I was looking forward to an incredible feast of delicious Thai dishes but instead we were served food that I didn’t recognize. And no one at the place was able to explain the dishes to us. In hindsight I believe what we were served were traditional Lanna dishes. I personally found most of them inedible. BUT the dancing was wonderful. The music, the costumes, the smiles on the dancers faces and the energy was very positive. So go for the dancing, not the food. AND be aware of the pricing before you go. As we were leaving another Western family was commenting on how great the place was especially given that they were only paying 200 Baht per person! We had paid 380 Baht per person almost twice that amount.

  2. Like most Asian countries, we will be welcomed with their local cultural dance usually during our first dinner. This usually will be included in your tour package if you do follow one. The dinner provided was a special way of buffet where a big plate containing several small bowls of vegetables, sauces, chicken and pork. There are also plastic packages of glutinous rice which is something the local Chiang Mai people eat usually. The food is refillable but it is usually not hot. If you’re not Asian or if you can’t eat food with too much spices, then the food might not suit you. Around 7.30 local time, the dance started with a few girls moving around gracefully in their traditional attire. Honestly, I don’t really like these dances much unless it is really interesting or funny or etc. So I thought it was boring after some time and left before the total performances was over. Well, my word of advise would be: you can leave if you really don’t like the show. Don’t force yourself on a holiday! The exterior of the restaurant was really pretty at night, so worth a few pictures together!

  3. Wondering what to do during my evening in Chiang Mai I remembered these cultural dinners, so decided to book a ticket ahead (save money) and went solo or they charge 100 bhat to pick up and another 100 bhat to drop off. I took a map on a bike and it took me 20 mins from thapae gate so not too far. I arrived early and was one of first to enter so served the tray of around 7-8 dishes of traditional food , with rice and appetizers. It was hot but steamed rice was well overdone but apart from that the food was delicious. Drinks are pricey and an extra so tip to save money is to bring water. I was sat on the sides but most people had small tables to be sociable so ask for your preference when booking. The food kept coming and waiters would top up anything you wanted (chicken was incredible!) so you end up stuffed before the coffee, snacks and fruit platters come out. The dance shows are so-so, rather slow and similar although the music from the live performers changes. After dinner you go to the outdoor theater to watch regional dances and it finishes about 9.30 when lots of tourists get the buses home or you can make your own way. I had an insightful experience and enjoyed trying many types of thai food in one dinner- just don’t eat much beforehand!

  4. the food is good, also the show is good. the recommended time to enjoy the food is at 6 pm, you can enjoy the lanna culture, chiang mai culture. the camera service so annoying i think, you have to pay 200 bath to take the printed picture of you with 2 girls which wearing lanna chlotes
