  1. I have been doing Bikram yoga for years now, and wanted to try a different method. When planning this trip, I found Mysore Ashtanga at this retreat, and decided to leap in to the practice. Teresa, the owner, is available via email and offers prompt replies for every question and concern. Upon arrival – taxi is about 300 THB to retreat. When leaving, the retreat will call the day before to set up a taxi picking you up. Wim and his wife are amazing human beings. They run the retreat and treat everyone like they are family. It’s really a blessing to have found such a beautiful place with the staff they have. The rooms are clean and orderly. The food is amazing (Indian food buffer every Friday!), steam room multiple times weekly, and The yoga is top notch. I could not have asked for a better stay while visiting Koh Phangan. Plan to spend at least a week (I wish I could spend a second!) beginner class starts on Monday, and you will spend the entire week learning the asana, taking lessons to learn what Ashtanga is, chanting, meditating, and working on yourself. The retreat is close to Had Salad where you can rent motor bikes, get massage, and do laundry. There are other beaches close by, I do recommend renting a bike if you want to see the island.

  2. I’ve been to the Yoga Retreat twice, first in 2014 and now in early 2019 (both times for a 2 week retreat, no detox). The place has changed very little, which is great because I thought it was perfect the first time. What can I say about this unique little spot in the jungle…?Firstly, that if you’re looking for a serious, down to earth, let’s deal with what really matters kind of Ashtanga practice then this is the place. If you’re looking for fancy shmancy spa-like yoga resorts you’re better off going somewhere else.Forget air cons and chilled welcome drinks, The Yoga Retreat will instead serve you a dose of serious inner journeying that will take you to where you really need to be (if that’s where you want to go). Of course you can also just go there and do your downward dogs in the morning but if there’s room in your head to expand your inner horizons, trust me, you’ll be seeing Cape Town with your Third Eye.The teachers are high quality (my priority when traveling for yoga) and on top of that the shala is probably the most amazing place I’ve ever practiced in. The rooms are very basic but I always felt at home (and I appreciate that more than luxurious comfort), oh and the food is a 100% perfect mix of healthy and delicious with very decent prices.Need to reset your brain and rewire it in a more sophisticated way? Go there, and if you’re lucky your body might just benefit from it too.

  3. Come here to drop off yoga class, but don’t take a package, you will lose a lot of money ! I came to practise yoga so I took the 2 yoga class a day package for 6 days. I realised too late that it is so expensive ! Package cost is 7000 baht without accomodation, when if you drop off class it’s 400 per class so 4800 for 6 days. 2200 baht difference ! Also they offer food included all day for 1000 but no one will eat that much, a meal costs 100 ! Same breakfast included is 300 when meal + juice is 200 max… i don’t understand why as you stay here and invest money it’s more expensive than droping by… I tried to bargain about it with the owner (who wasn’t here at all) to stay longer taking class, but she didn’t care as I already paid. Also place is isolated, i recommend you to rent a bungalow on the beach and a motobike to move around. You have free time during the day. I loved the yoga classes, especially the ashtanga class with Mira the teacher. She’s been so nice, hopefully she was here to help us with many things. The place is nice, clean, I love the yoga shala on the jungle. The staff made me unconfortable. Only 1 speaks english, and they seem friendly only when you buy food here, which is very expensive. Good to try some raw food, but for the rest, go eat outside. Basic meals are 100 when is twice cheaper outside ! Also the seem to be observing us all day as we are sitting on the table… There were very few people here as it’s off season, and they told us we were not allowed to eat our own fruits bought outside in the restaurant. Finally other girl took 1 yoga class and philosophy and meditation class, but she said it was not worthy. She already new most of it and it’s very expensive also.

  4. I stayed here for 6 day yoga retreat package, I had my morning Mysore Ashtanga class with Michael who is a very professional instructor, he know exactly how to get me into every posture and I felt I have improved sooooo much even for only 6 days.Mid day and in the afternoon, I had my theory, meditation, pranayama and Hatha Yoga class with Nadine, who has been a very inspirational teacher to me, through her teaching, I bring home a new me with more positive thinking! The Yoga Shala at the retreat is another highlight, solid wood floor that shine, and looking out to the jungle, it’s beautiful! (Remember your mosquito repellent before your practice)The cafe at the retreat is taken care by Wim’s family. Wim is a very nice, caring and helpful person, always put a smile on his face. The cooking lady make beautiful wholesome gourmet, power bowl, vege roll and stir fry, everything was so yummy!I stayed in a single room with en-suite shower and toilet, the accommodation is very simple, but would be nicer if it could be better maintained. The retreat is next to the main road but remain quiet as my room is facing the jungle. You will need a scooter to move around as the closest beach (Salad beach) and restaurants and shops is a 15-20 mins steep slope walk.Overall, it’s great experience here! Would definitely come back again!

  5. I just want to thank you for a wonderful 5 days of yoga and philosophy. Was unique experience in my life and make really better life than be for. The Yoga Retreat is the perfect complement to a relaxing. Encourage me to listen my body and will guide you through your own individual transformation. You will learn tools to change your life positively. Focus will be on Alignment, Yoga, breathing techniques, Meditation (mind control) Energetic locks (bandhas) and Chanting (mantra) Immerse yourself in the real world.

  6. Normally I hardly write reviews on Tripadvisor or Google. In this case I feel obliged to do so. Most of the Google and Tripadvisor reviews were very good and for this reason I expected more from “the yoga retreat”.I have visited many different yoga retreats in the last few years and also attend yoga classes on a weekly basis. About the accommodation: Very old. Some things need to be renovated. One has the feeling that the accommodation will be sold soon and for this reason no more money is invested. The forest on the right side has already been cut down. Soon something will be built next door. The accommodation is close to the road and for this reason it is loud. Without a scooter it is difficult to move forward. The taxi service drives through only sporadically. Start Yoga week: Normally you start together as a group and the teachers are introduced and everybody can share the yoga experience. Nothing – all very impersonal. Asthanga Yoga: Preference is given to beginners and professionals. If your level is in between, it will be difficult to profit. I am used to more professional teachers. I was surprised that the classes are so well attended. I also did not trust the teacher. Trust is very important for further progress, especially in the asthanga. Hatha Yoga and Meditation: Only suitable for people without many years of Yoga experience. The lessons did not challenge me at all. The teacher did the whole thing without love and compassion.Owner: I didn’t see them once, otherwise I would have liked to give them the feedback directly.Detox: For me the detoxing of 3 days went well. Wim, the Thai who is responsible for the accommodation has organized everything well. However, if problems arise, he cannot help, because his English is not very good. In my opinion it is the responsibility of the owners. But they were never there and asked. Food: The only thing that’s great is Wim and his team. They provide an excellent service regarding food. It is fresh, innovative and healthy.

  7. The only negative thing I can say is I wasn’t here long enough. Great, relaxed atmosphere, amazing healthy food and drink, various yoga and detox options and a beach down the road. They run early Mysore style classes, hatha in the afternoon, philosophy, meditation, retreats with various detox options, plus a 200hr TTC. The owners, Kes and Teresa Kennard are great teachers, and their staff are friendly and helpful. It’s about 15-20 mins to the Haad Salad beach (bit longer going back but most people rent scooters which are really cheap). It’s a cool little place with several rooms so you can also stay here. We only stayed 3 days but we enjoyed it lots and met lots of lovely new people too.

  8. I floated back to my hotel from here. This is a very peaceful place with a genuinely warm welcome. A sense of community and warmth on walking in the door. The view from the yoga studio is gorgeous. The Ayurvedic oil massage was wonderful. A must. ps home to a total cutie of a doggo !

  9. Wonderful morning yoga to start another wonderful day. Friendly welcoming and very satisfying. Looking forward to my return next year.

  10. Huge thanks to Kes, Theresa and the rest of the team for being so kind, welcoming and hospitable. I stayed a full month here and could’ve happily stayed longer. The place itself is equipped with a little cafe that does great food, a pool, views over the jungle and various little chill out spots, all making for a really relaxing atmosphere. The first room I stayed in was a little bit too hot for my liking so they upgraded me free of charge which I thought was a nice touch. Can’t comment on the yoga as I didn’t partake but there seemed to be a great little community of both long termers and tourists who spoke very highly of the instructors
