I’ve been to Dasa on multiple occasions over the years, but I’ve finally had enough of it.Do not try to sell books to Dasa as they will be always be the “wrong type”, which is a very old and transparent way of paying you as little money as they can. Over all, the staff are not friendly and aren’t really up for engaging with or helping customers at all. A silly but telling exapamle is when I came into the shop and commented to the American man working there on the storm blowing outside “ummm…okay” he replies. In short, their image is all warm, cute, and friendly, but it’s not true. The shop itself is dank and dark and the stairs are brutal, so it’s quite hard to get around. Also, there are multitudes of signs telling you what will happen if you pinch a book etc. which, while unpleasant, does fit in with the cold staff. If Dasa were in the West it would be “that dark and grim shop with the grumpy staff” but as it’s in Bangkok, it’s celebrated. Pay a few hundred Bhat more and go to Asia Books.
As the title says, it’s the best secondhand book store in Bangkok with more than 15K books. A must-visit for travelers and expats who love books and a cup of coffee.
What a marvellous find this shop is!I went in to find a particular book on Angkor Wat and the helpful assistant directed me immediately to a volume on the ground floor. As l was leaving, l spied an amazing collection of used cds and bought a hard to find French volume…l walked outside only to be drawn into the bargain tray at the front of the shop where l found a great book for a friend. I will return for a serious rummage at a later date.
I’ve used this shop for years and it is always a good place to find interesting books and offload any you don’t want. Always worth checking out the new arrivals section when you go in.
I enjoy reading fiction and non-fiction books with stories based on the area I’m traveling. On the first level Dasa has a great selection of Thai stories. I found several books to choose from. It wasn’t easy selecting one. My partner and I spent a good hour looking at books on every level in this shop. It’s a fantastic second hand shop and look forward to visiting again in my travels.
I was looking for titles for my wife’s birthday and found several. The best thing was what was stated on the website was exactly what they had in stock. Perfect. She was really pleased 🙂 🙂
it’s a quiet, seemingly family run place, nice selection of books in very reasonable prices even if you are on a tight budget. a very fair exchange policy- they actually gave me for a book i brought there more than i paid for it- and pleasent to be in in general.
Went for 2 consecutive days. Wide selection of books on 3 floors of a shop but prices were not that cheap.
In truth I had been in communication back In September, whilst int the UK, about a book that I had found in their online database. I decided to pick it up in person whilst on holiday and grab an ice coffee. They also sell 2nd hand cds amd offered to search their catalogue for what I wanted but I politely declined as there is something about perusing CDs as you may find a nice surprise
Recently moved to Phrom Pong area. Often buy, browse or return books. Owner and his staff very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Great selection of books. Pleasant environment to be in for an hour or two.
