This is one of those experiences which should not be missed. Paddling through the mangrove swamps at the base of the cliffs is one of the signature tours of Krabi. I am not an experienced kayaker so paid 300 baht for someone to do the paddling for me, well worth the extra.
A huge shout out to our guide “A” from Sea Kayak Krabi who was not only a fabulous guide and very personable with great English, he took a TON of photos for us! I had a waterproof camera case so he took my phone for the entire trip and snapped well over 100 shots of my husband, daughter and I during our day long adventure. I have a ton of photos of our family kayaking plus some really cool shots that he suggested like the three of us jumping. A lot of the great photos were panoramas so I wasn’t able to upload to show them but I’m so grateful to A for all the photos! The trip itself was really fun too! We went over to Hong island by Longtail boat then kayaked 1.5km around to the lagoon where we stopped and took photos and looked around then kayaked the 2km around to get back to where we started where we had lunch then had 2hrs for snorkelling, swimming, relaxing on the beach. After that we went to Pakbia island for another swim and more photos before heading back to Ao Thalane where Sea Kayak Krabi is based. Transfer to/from hotel is also included. Overall, a really fun day and a HUGE thank you to A for being such a great guide and for all the fantastic photos!
We did the half day kayaking trip. The scenery was beautiful. I made sure to book my visit for a time when the tide was high so we could get into the mangrove and I’m glad I did. A monkey jumped in our kayak! My son was hoping that would happen, though other people on the tour were not so happy when that happened to them. The only thing I didn’t realize was that it takes an hour to get from Ao Nam Mao pier to Ao Thalane. Also, if you don’t pick the lunch option, you have to wait until the others finish their lunch to be driven back to the start point. There is a convenience shop there but not a lot to pick from. You get fruit, but it will be 1.30 pm or later by the time you get back to your hotel. So if you don’t choose the lunch option, be sure to eat a big breakfast or bring a snack.
Me and my family I want to go to Tha Len Bay in Krabi, see mangrove forests, meet Sea kayak krabi by chance. The staff are polite and warm welcoming. So I chose to give it a try and choose a guide to guide and explain because this is the first time. Our guide was named A… He start from the beginning, explaining the map. Where will we go .. On the way to kayak he Can be presented in both Thai and English… Knowledge explains deep and broad. We are not bored. It was fun listening to some interesting stories in the mangrove forest. gained knowledge Feel safe Staff and Guide A They are professional and take good care at all times. Good to go to here.. Impressive trips!!!
We love kayaking and exploring – our trip to Krabi was to experience sea kayaking through the limestone canyons and mangrove forests of Ao Thalane and we were not disappointed. Signed up for half day visit on the first day and so thoroughly enjoyed that we added a full day the next day long-tail boat and SUP in the northern reaches of Phang Nga Bay. Entering untouched lagoons through caves on paddleboards and paddling through mangrove forest in complete solitude were the highlights. Our guide, Khun “A” was a delight – so helpful and knowledgeable, as was his wife, provided a wonderful local meal for the trip. A great visit.
We booked a full day experience directly with the company which should have included kayaking at both Hong Island and Ao Thalane. We were very specific as we only wanted to kayak at Hong Island and did not want to walk up to the viewpoint, walk the nature trail or just sit on the beach. They sent an itinerary showing kayaking at Hong Island BUT they didn’t tell us until we arrived at Hong Island that kayaking had been banned by the National Park the week before and we could only sit around or walk to the viewpoint and nature trail. Our teenage boys were very disappointed and we were not properly dressed for hiking. We would not have booked to go to Hong Island and not kayak. Extremely disappointing.Anyway, the afternoon kayaking through the mangrove forest at Ao Thalane was amazing.
Not safe!! We hired a staff on the kayak with us. He is a big guy and when he trying to pass through the cove the Boat failed all people fall into water because the staff lost balance. Even waterproof bag doesn’t help. Everything into the sea. And the owner couple bad attitude at the office so not recommended at all.
Mangroves are very cool, your guide was knowledgeable about the history of the mangroves and fishing in the area. He has lived in krabi for many years and used to be a fisherman. The kayaking is great way to see the nature but definitely difficult as you paddle about 7 km and you’re going in open water and upstream for at least 1/3 of it. Eat a good meal beforehand and bring snacks in case it runs late. Also the sun is very strong even in the morning so apply a lot of sunscreen and maybe cover up if you burn easily because you cant really stop the kayak to re apply during the tour.
We had a fantastic day (sea kayak and Hong Island full day).Pick up from hotel is very convenient. Was very punctual. We were advised we would do Hong Island Frist; given the tides the kayaking in afternoon would allow for more exploration later.Hong Island is really lovely; going to the view point is worth it – best view in Thailand! Then lunch; very tasty; vegetables, a chicken dish, and Tom Yom soup. Kayaking in the afternoon was great, really special place, and we were given loads of information about the forest, the plants and animals throughout. What made the whole day even more amazing was our guide, Mr A. Really friendly man, and extremely knowledgeable. He took videos and photos throughout the day which he then shared with us, which is just a lovely added bonus. Would highly recommend anyone to do the full day trip.
Our guide, Anan, was a jolly and funny guy. He knows lot about mangrove forest and fish as well (he is also a fisherman). Speaks good english and keeps telling jokes all the time. The kayaking trip (half day) took place in a very nice and tranquill place, an island with a great mangrove forest. I recommend this company, had a great time, everything was perfect 🙂 Anan also sent us pictures, which he was taking during the whole trip, very fast.
