Pai Walking Street is perched on a picturesque hilltop overlooking 58130, Thailand
Open daily from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., this walking street was crowed with visitors (both foreign and Thai), souvenir shops, bars, cafes and food stalls with varieties of food and snacks (Asian/European/local). We also tasted “ข้าวส้ม”, local food of Mae Hong Son province, at this walking street. Recommended.
If in Pai you have to come down here at night and enjoy some food and drinks. It’s quite a fun busy street with some nice food and restaurants to enjoy.
We were lucky to visit Pai during the lantern festival on Nov 29 and were able to catch the hour long procession along the streets. It gave a good display of local tribes costumes along with songs and dance. The walking streets start getting busy from 5pm daily. The streets are lined with stalls selling crafts, local food, t-shirts (small and medium size Baht 100 each) and souvenirs. Plenty of restaurants and cafes to choose from if you are not adventurous enough to try the stalls’ food. There are other shops – massage, tattoo, bakeries, lotus convenience stores, pubs, ATMs etc.One could easily spend 2 hours shopping and eating in Pai walking streets.
Most visitors at PAI, visit this walking street after dinner or to catch a light meal for assorted and varieties of food and snacks. it was a Wednesday night and the street was lively and full of people.
Fun to walk around and look at the various sorts of hippies and stoners that infest the area of Pai and surroundings. A lot of weed signs everywhere, and people off their mind from their ganja. Pro top: if you walk towards walking street from the main road at Pai River, there are more upmarket places where you will not find the backpackers.
Go and see the truffle man!! His truffles are exceptional. On the left after 7/11 going towards the river. We got them every night to eat before bed.
It was nice to wander around and see different stalls. It is quite a small market, with most of the stalls being food items, but worth a visit
The walking street is in center of Pai, travellers like to go to smell local culture in market such as food, equipment, clothes, stuff, etc. Nice to walk in winter.
Pai used to be such a wonderful relaxed place. I have been several times. However it is now full of people who just want to be seen and pot heads. So disappointing. If you’re over 30 it’s no longer the place to go.
If you want to mix with people who have no respect that they are in a Buddhist country and dress like they are at the beach, this is the tourist destination for you. I watched with horror as tourists filmed a funeral procession for a dead baby.
