We went on two trips with Palm beach divers whilst we stayed in Koh Lanta. We went to Koh Bida the first time and Koh Haa the second time. The boat crew and diving crew were all friendly and it was very comfortable on the big boat to relax between trips in to the water. The guides are very good at showing you what to look for in the water, we saw sharks and moray eels and loads of other fish too, it was amazing. If you’re looking for the best day of proper snorkeling then go with this company, you won’t regret it.
Let me preface my review with a statement that this “ain’t my first rodeo” with dive shops. In my short diving “career” I went diving with several dive shops so I do have something to compare. Let me tell you this was undoubtedly one of my best all around experiences in Thailand. This school has everything buttoned up. Starting with communication, organization, facilities, through staff and actual diving. The facilities are some of the better once I saw with spacious indoor and outdoor lobby and a reception area that also features a small shop with some dive gear. The school also owns a really a great dive boat that features two spacious waiting areas, a gear set-up area and even is equipt with onboard compressor so you will never run out of oxygen tanks. There are also two sweet water showers available to rinse off the sea water after the dive. In short the boat is one of the best I dove off. Włodek and Iwona, the owners, are not just the owners, they are more like hosts and your “family”;) They make sure that your diving experience remains the highlight of your trip. Włodek and Iwona know the ocean like the back of their palm and will take you to amazing places weather you would like to buddy-buddy with sharks, enjoy the caves or meet the turtles. While you rest in between the dives aside of just traditional watermelon or peanapple slices like most boats do, you can count on fullfledged breakfast and lunch. If you venture to Lanta and get the diving or snorkeling itch you can’t go wrong with Palm Beach Divers.
Very good experience overall. The staff are very friendly and professional. Diving equipment and diving sites are really good. They will pick you up/drop you off at your hostel and the food is really good too.On the downside, they use a bigger, slower boat that smells of burnt diesel during the many manoeuvers to get the divers in and out. On the upside, the bigger boat allows for toilets, sun deck and an onboard air compressor for refilling the tanks. Pretty cool. Would recommend to anyone looking to dive in Lanta.
I did my Open Water Diver course at the Palm Beach Divers centre. The course lasted three days. Mr. Gryglewicz taught me the theory on the first day and we practiced the basics in the pool. On the second and third day we were on a boat and had dives next to the islands Koh Haa and Koh Bida. On the boat we had delicious breakfast, drinks, snacks and lunch. Before each dive my instructor explained and showed me where we were going to dive and what sea animals we could see using pictures and maps. He was always open to answer questions in a detailed and understandable way. I never felt insecure or scared because my instructor was always professional and very good organised. The diving was indescribably beautiful, I saw countless fish, clownfish, beautiful corals, turtles and much more. 🐙🐡🐢I can only recommend this well-kept, professional and multilingual diving school!!! I will definitely come again!Thank you for this great experience Wlodek!Laura
Don’t make my mistake. If you’re paying in cash, pay only after you’ve completed your diving course.Scuba is an expensive sport, so this place is pricey (but around the same price as other scuba schools in the area). But this business doesn’t accept credit cards. It also doesn’t accept payment on the common transfer apps, like PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Facebook Pay, and so on. Aside from some uncommon apps for wire-transfer, this business only accepts cash. The problem is, I couldn’t complete my diving course because I got sick. And my sickness was partly caused by the scuba diving: I was recovering from food poisoning, and the scuba diving made my nausea and dizziness come back. (Scuba diving can cause nausea and dizziness, because of the pressure on your ears underwater and because of motion sickness on the boat.) I didn’t know that I’d react this way to scuba diving, because I’d never done scuba diving before. And I was too sick to dive. I didn’t want to have severe vomiting or diarrhea while underwater, especially because I was completely new to scuba diving. So, on my third day, I just couldn’t dive. When I told the owner that I was too sick to dive, he was very rude. The first words out of his mouth were, “You aren’t getting your money back.” Then he began bartering with me about what date I could return to compete the course. I wasn’t in the headspace to barter with the guy, because I was still very nauseous, dizzy, and sick. So, in the end, he received full payment for all three days, but I received only two days of instruction and diving.I wish that, when I told him that I was too sick to dive, he’d reacted differently. I wish that he’d expressed concern about my well-being. I wish he’d reassured me that, of course, my health was his top priority. But he didn’t do any of that. Instead, he aggressively came at me about money, when I had no leverage to negotiate because he already had my cash in his til.Thinking back on it now, I realize that there were certain fees that the owner absolutely should have refunded. For example, when the boat arrives at the national park, the park employees charge for each person in your boat. But I got sick, so I didn’t go to the park on the third day. The owner should’ve refunded that fee to me, because the owner never paid that fee to the national park. But the owner flatly refused to refund any of my money.Besides, it’s not just about the money. It was the way the owner treated me, acting as though my money was all that he cared about. It left a really bad taste in my mouth.Everything else about this diving school seems fine. My instructor was good. The underwater views were beautiful. My only problem was with the owner, who made me feel like my only value to him was the depth of my pocketbook. So don’t make my mistake. If you go with this diving school, pay only after you’ve completed the diving and instruction. After all, you’ll be paying in cash, so you won’t have the type of consumer protection provided by companies like Visa and Mastercard. But if you pay at the end of your course, then you’ll likely avoid the type of negative experience that I had with the owner of this business.
Our snorkeling trip with Palm Beach Divers on Ko Lanta was incredible. We saw abundant marine life, vibrant coral reefs, and even spotted a shark. Guides Wlodek and Bowy were fantastic, providing knowledge and ensuring safety. The equipment was excellent, and the boat comfortable. Highly recommended for a memorable underwater adventure in Thailand.
We booked with Palm Beach Divers as a couple for dives to Koh Haa the following day. We decided to pay a bit more than other local dive companies as they had a speedboat and the promise of trip to the dive site in 30 mins vs the standard 2 hour boat trip – as this was our last day we had plans for the afternoon so agreed to pay more so that we wouldn’t lose a full day on the boat.On the morning of the dive, the dive shop owner told us that we wouldn’t be on the speedboat due to the weather. It then transpired that we would be joining another dive company boat (Blue Planet). Once we received the briefing (already en route on the boat) we also discovered that the destination that they were diving was Bida Nok – not Koh Haa that we had been sold by Palm Beach – this was the first time that we had been told that the dive site was not what we had booked. Strangely, other operators such as Pheonix Divers had their speedboats out and the weather conditions were very flat. The operator, whose boat we were now stuck on, had planned 3 dives so we arrived home at 17:00 instead of the 12:30 we were promised when we booked. Had we known this in advance, we wouldn’t have joined the dive as we didn’t want to do another dive at a site we had been to the previous week when it was going to take a full day of our holiday (also our last day). Even more annoyingly, Blue Planet (the dive company whose boat we ended up on) offered the exact same dives, with pick up at your hotel for 800 baht less than Palm Beach. So you have the exact same experience (same boat, same dive site, same boat staff, excl. guide) but at a much cheaper rate. I explained this to owner when we arrived back at the shop. Instead of simply apologising for the inconvenience he simply stated, “that’s what happens when you join somebody else’s boat”. Well we booked a trip and paid more than other operators in the area specifically as you heavily advertised YOUR speedboat – not another operators large boat – the fact that it was changed should have either been compensated, explained before we left with an option to cancel or at the very least an apology. It was the complete rudeness and not even a simple sorry that upset us the most.I completely understand that if there are limited numbers of divers then it might not be economically viable to take out your own boat but this should be explained to the clients before boarding the boat – and specially when the dive locations themselves have changed.I’d suggest booking directly with one of the dive companies by Koh Lanta pier (of which there are many) to receive the same experience and save some cash.On the plus side, our dive master was very friendly and attentive – the only silver lining!
Diving with Palm Beach Divers at Koh Haa was an unforgettable experience! The team was professional, friendly, and made us feel completely at ease from the moment we arrived. The dive site at Koh Haa was breathtaking, with crystal-clear waters and an incredible variety of marine life. Our instructor was knowledgeable and attentive, ensuring that we were well-prepared and comfortable throughout the dive. The small group size allowed for a more personalized experience, and we were able to explore some truly stunning underwater landscapes. The entire day was perfectly organized, from the briefing to the dive itself, and the post-dive refreshments were a nice touch. We couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to diving in Thailand. If you’re in Koh Lanta and looking for an exceptional diving experience, Palm Beach Divers is the place to go.
They have a Speedboat makes trip much faster than most, ie 40 min to dive sites rather than 1 hr 40 although sometimes they aren’t using it. Dive guides are experienced and helpful. You also get breakfast and lunch which is a bonus . The diving is great
MUST DO EXPERIENCE! My husband and I booked very last minute to complete our Open Water Divers course with Palm Beach Divers in Koh Lanta. The owners (Wlodek and Iwona) were AMAZING from start to finish! They accommodated us in the off season when most other dive companies weren’t operating, they were incredibly organised, knowledgable and efficient throughout the course, they were great fun to dive with and always made sure that we saw incredible sea life (turtles, cuttlefish, sharks, lion fish to name a few!) and on top of all of that, they picked us up and dropped us back at our accommodation each day. All of their equipment is high quality and they ensured that we were set up correctly before each dive. They also have their own pool so you can practice your skills before getting into the ocean. We cannot recommend them more highly and they are without a doubt the best dive school to learn from. Worth every penny to learn the skills for what will be a lifelong hobby! Thank you so much Wlodek and Ivona! 🤩👌
