  1. We did not the trek we booked (misunderstanding apparently…). So disapointed to not see the Karen village and the two waterfalls. We walk a lot into the jungle. The lunch was a very nice moment. One point of view and one little waterfall. Cool moment but no so amazing, we expected more after 2 hours of transport from Chian Mai. Be carefull to your trek choice!

  2. The business misinformed us about the trail and the itinerary. Let me first explain the trail and what you should exactly expect to see in this hike:- We has two tour guides with us. One couldn’t speak any English and one knew only some English words. This could be for some people unique, but stating that the business offers English speaking tour guides is clearly wrong.- The trail is not medium by the way. It was ok for us, but I would suggest to clearly check with them before getting on this trail.- Based on the information on their website (they updated their website right after our complains to them through email), we expected to hear about the culture and heritage of the community. However, we didn’t hear anything about the tribe and its heritage. So don’t expect that to happen on your experience.- While the view for lunch was interesting, but the food itself is not high quality. They bought already prepared cold Pad Thai from market and served us. Don’t get me wrong, the food was ok, but don’t have high expectations. They don’t cook or prepare the food for you there. Also, they provided fruits which was good.- The trail itself was good and I would suggest to experience it. We saw two waterfalls and hike through the Jungle. Again don’t have high expectations, I have seen better trails in the US. The main reason for me to go on this trail was to learn about the tribe rather of the trail itself, which didn’t happen.- [Misinformation] In our conversation with the business owner, they mentioned that the fee includes park fees. That gave us the impression that we are going to cross the national park. Even in their previous version of their website (which I have a copy of) they mentioned the national park. However, once we got on the trail, we were surprised that our trail did not cross the national park. After that, we respectfully asked for the fee to be reimbursed and yet got a bad response from the owner (I can share the email thread with anyone who is interested) that we were not going to give any money back and this is what is. Not even a simple apology about the misinformation. Also, it is not clear to me how the money is used to help the tribe and its people. I would have hoped to see more clear information on that. I would strongly advised against this business. If you need more information please contact me and I’d be happy to share more.

  3. We did the 2 days in Doi Inthanon trek during the rainy season. We found the trek in a tourist agency in Chiang Mai. Most of agencies are selling the classic “bamboo rafting and elephant sanctuary” trek but we wanted more nature, only walking and less touristic hike and the Hilltribe one was the perfect one to do that. The hike was a little bit hard, above all because of slippery paths. We unfortunately were not able to see the first viewpoint because of the weather. Nevertheless guides were perfect. Helpful when needed, they showed us plants and insects, answered all our questions, shared their way of living with us. It was real sharing and they were so nice. The fact that they promote small groups (we were only 3) helps a lot.We ate a padthai from the morning market and fresh fruits. During the afternoon we saw beautiful rice fields and little villages. We spend the night with them, cooking, chatting, eating a delicious dinner, it was really great. The farmstay is not luxurious, but you will have everything you need. There is a shower, toilets, and small private bamboo houses with small maitress and mosquito nets. No electricity or hot water but the fresh fruits (and toasts) in front of the rice field for the morning totally worths it.The second day was perfect too. Beautiful rice fields, great trek, a beautiful viewpoint and talking. We ate noodles with vegetables they cooked in the morning. To sum up the trek was a little bit intense but exactly what we wanted.Thank you very much for everything !

  4. So refreshing to find a trekking company that completely steers clear of all the tourist claptrap while also taking care of its participants. This was an authentic jungle experience. Nobody was on the trail besides our small group, and we were taken through some stunning and varied unspoiled countryside. The hilltop homestay was also a delight: bamboo huts, shared toilet and cold shower, and a coal and wood-fire kitchen. No electricity! From start to finish, all the people with us were from the Karen tribes and went above and beyond. Special shout-out to our cook and tour guide Nop, who hiked both days in flip-flops, introduced us to many new plant species, and cooked us an amazing dinner at night under the stars. My only feedback is that perhaps the trails could be given a bit clearer rating, since they were indeed “physically demanding” on a level I was not prepared for. You need to be in very good shape! Also, bathing suits and towels aren’t necessary—I didn’t feel compelled to plunge into the waterfall—but basic toiletries are (soap, shampoo, a washcloth) if you’re staying overnight.

  5. We did the 2D/1N trek in Doi Inthanon (in November). Great experience that met our expectations: beautiful scenery, quiet nature off the beaten track. Our guides were very kind and knowledgeable. We also enjoyed helping in the preparation of the dinner. Every meal was authentic and tasteful.

  6. Great guides bring you off the beaten track through the jungles outside Chiang Mai. It was a great educational day with lovely food and an amazing trek plus really interesting info from the guides on the trail the jungle, the communities. Only regret is that we could only do the one day instead of the overnight. The trail was moderately challenging but the guides always set a manageable pace with good stops.

  7. What a great trek (I did the one day)… a proper hike up in the hills, through the forest and stopping at waterfalls. The guides really made this trip, being from the tribe and knowing the forest so well… they picked us fruit and lemongrass and told us about their lives. I really appreciated the authenticity of this experience… so glad I picked it over other more ‘sightseeing’ tours… there was great sights, but it was the full day of hiking and learning from another culture which made it great. Thank you Nop and Chai (I hope I spelt right!)

  8. I would definitely recommend taking a trip with Ethnic Hilltribe. I went on a day trip to Doi Inthanon. The amount of hiking was great and so were they guides. Next time I stop by Chiang Mai, I’ll be sure to join for another trip.

  9. If you want “off the beaten track” – this is it! Great walking through jungle – once it rained a bit slippy( my guide found a wooden stick to use as a pole which was very useful!). A few steep slopes but fine if you are used to some walking – crossed some small rivers on bamboo bridges – but the guides helpYou across. Lovely lunch in banana leaf boats which we learnt to make! A bit more explanation at times would have helped ( how long stopping/ drink provision etc), and some of the stops seemed a bit longer than the group needed… but overall a great experience!
