  1. Really not all that much to see. A ship upon land. All information in Thai. You can walk around on the ship unguided. I wouldn’t waste my time going here.

  2. It was Sunday and we had nothing else planed, so we took off on a drive to the Klaeng area of Rayong Province to explore some of the things we had not seen before, including HTMC Prasae, HTMS Prasae was originally a US frigate built in 1943 and was originally named “USS Gallup″. After World War Two the ship was sold to the Royal Thai Navy under the condition that it help in the Korean War. It was finally decommissioned in 2000 and docked in Paknam Prasae, a small village on the Prasae River after which the ship was named. When I say “docked”, the keel of the ship is literally buried in the ground, surrounded by a concrete retaining wall.It costs nothing explore the boat and climb onto the deck and up to the wheelhouse, but you are not not allowed inside, which is locked. This is probably just as well, because although the exterior of the ship is obviously being maintained, there are clear signs in the wheelhouse and other areas, that the ship is in a serious state of decay. All the signage here is in Thai, so if you want to know more about what you are looking at, Google before you go. I believe it is always more interesting if you know the background.

  3. Combined with the mangrove walk its a nice half day break from the beach and the swimming pool. Kids enjoyed it.

  4. It’s like a big boys toy. Free entry and good for photos. Unfortunately no info. in English language available. But you can explore with plenty of access to the big guns and machine gun emplacements on board and still moving parts. Access to outside areas but not inside. Just be careful some ladders worse for wear and some steep climbs for seniors and young kids . Nearby some restaurants with cheaply priced beer and serving local Thai food. Beach not the cleanest because so close to rivermouth. Popular with kite surfers. We traveled from mae phim around 12 kms away but nice drive good roads. Good way to pass away an afternoon. Recommended.

  5. Stopped buy for 10 minutes…. Ended up closes to 1hr…. Four decks open to public plus some of the crows nest… Climb around this old WWII ship… And try to count how guns or weapon syst…. Fun

  6. I’m sure the world would be a better place without warships, but climbing around this 1940s US frigate is instructive and amusing even for peaceful grown-ups. It was sold by the US to Thailand as a resource for support in the Korean war and decommissioned (I think) in 2000. It’s neglected and unsupervised; you can stand on the bridge and imagine you’re in charge, or traverse the guns to some invisible enemy. While it’s small by warship standards, it’s still huge as it towers above you in its landlocked basin. It sits on the circular mangrove forest trail, though we were unable to make the trip on foot because of an exceptionally high tide, worsened by long-distance storm surge from tropical storm Pabuk on the west of the Gulf. Kids would surely love this, but it’s good fun for adults too.

  7. This place is good one for who has plan to visit bay of Pra Saa. This place not far from the city you can drive less than 30 min to be there! Not only this monument but also the mangrove walking around the garden too. There have some restaurants but must check the price before order! You can take a while might be 1-2 hours for exploring the ship and rest!

  8. The area around is very picturesque. Can climb abroad the Battle ship, but can’t go below decks, only look around the main decks where the big guns are housed. So not alot to see, but interesting to walk around the decks and soak up the atmosphere what it would have been like when the ship was in action.Lots of climbing though, so have to be reasonably fit & able.No charge for entry to the vessel. But would have to nice to have more notices on display in English too.

  9. The history of this patrol frigate is really fascinating. Constructed in California in 1944, the ship first served in the U.S. and took part in MacArthur’s landing operations in Leyte. Soon after that, the ship was refitted and provided to the Soviet Union under a lend-lease program, with expectations the Soviets were going to join with the Allies in fighting Japan. After WWII ended, the U.S. spent four years negotiating the return of the ship (in 1949). It then saw action at the start of the Korean War as an American navy ship again. It was subsequently transferred to the Royal Thai Navy in 1951 and was a part of the Thai navy until decommissioned in 2000. Visitors can climb all about the ship, play with the remaining guns, and pretend to captain the ship from the bridge. No charge for this attraction of fascinating interest.

  10. Nice area with a typical market. We were pretty much the only tourist there. People took our photo for no reason. The boat was cool, to bad there was no history in english to read.
