  1. It is located inside the Grand Palace Complex and right next to the Wat Phra Kaew temple [Emerald Buddha temple]. I really could not understand why it was here and it felt a bit odd to see it as it stood out from all the other structures inside the complex. It’s just a miniature version of the original Cambodian Hindu temple.

  2. Had it not been for a tour guide when visiting Bangkok’s Grand Palace, not only would I have been endlessly lost but I learned that each of the many architectural styles of structures are derived from various cultures and countries. As example, the golden, bell-shaped stupa is Phra Si Ratana Chedi, and is in the architectural influence of Sri Lanka (as detailed in my TripAdvisor review entitled “Golden, bell-shaped stupa”.) Part of that architectural education included the column-like circular domed stupas are from the Cambodian (Khmer) style. That’s why visitors see understated elegance in the Mini Angkor Wat structures within the Grand Palace complex. It is unfortunate that our Overseas Adventure Travel tour group visited this site before journeying to Siem Reap, the Cambodian city near the Angkor Wat temple complex. (Siem Reap literally translated means “Siam Leveled,” as in Thai warriors invaded the ancient Cambodian capital and “leveled” [or razed] all structures in the city, but not the temple complex.)For those who plan to visit Angkor Wat after Bangkok, pay particular attention to the arrangement of these buildings and the architectural elements. Then visualize a compound dozens of times the size of this scale model. Enjoy! I certainly did.☺

  3. A funny thing to see but I definitely prefer the real one! The Temple that it is in, is also worth visiting! So when you are there anyway just have a quick look!

  4. The miniature is so well defined and so intricately formed. It makes you want to go visit this place in real.Made me think about how much dedication went into creating the masterpiece.

  5. This is part of the Grand Palace precinct and is interesting to stop and examine. We’ve not been to the real Angkor Wat so it was interesting to see the detail and layout of this mini version.

  6. The reason that the miniature of Angkor wat have been presented here because during the reign of Rama King IV or year 1851 – 1868, the territory of Thailand during that period also covered Cambodia or Khmer empire as its colony. The king had his vision and his project to display and re-build the stunning of stone monument in the kingdom for his people to admire the uniqueness of Khmer art. But, he realized later that this project wasn’t worth for due to the resource and the huge scale of the building. So, he decided to only display the masterpiece of stone monument as a miniature which is “Angkor Wat” because of its hardship when building and its delicacy of carving sculptures as we can’t find in anywhere. This is the reason why there is a miniature of Angkor Wat in Grand palace

  7. But the top of the temple is not the same. copy always like this. It’s just copy from khmer.Nowadays like Chinese Park has copies from Angkor Thom too.

  8. We had visited the beautiful Wat Phra temple complex during our vacation in Bangkok and this miniature model of the famous Angkor Wat temple of Cambodia is located within the temple complex. The model created in black stone is really an impressive specimen of architecture and we had a good time clicking pictures with the model in the background.

  9. At first glance this model lacks the glamour of its gold encrusted neighbours but it is worth looking at the beautiful detail of the model. Attention to detail is amazing!

  10. A couple of reviews have said it isn’t clear why the model is here. As if historic Thai Kings should be expected to justify themselves to a modern audience…Some of the model shows signs of wear, which I’ve no doubt is to be expected after years of being rained on – so I wonder how much of the detail of the model Is original….?
