10 thoughts on “Vietnamese Memorial Clock Tower

  1. Built by the Vietnamese people for rememberence who lived in Nakhon Phanom before they returned to their homeland in the the 1960’s

  2. Nakhon Phanom is the Thailand that used to be elsewhere. Ethnic Lao & Vietnamese along with Pu Thai and various other tribal people. Come to where there is no MacDonalds, no KFC and no man-buners. Sit on the mighty Mekong and delve into the thousands of years of history laid bare before your eyes. There are not many places left in the world like Nakhon Phanom, but to find a few more hop across the river on the Friendship Bridge 3 and venture out on Route 12 or simply stay in Thakhek, either way your heads and shoulders above those stuck in Chiang Mai or Bangkok. Life is when you live it.

  3. A very nice looking Clock Tower on the Mekong Walking Street. At night it was awesome, the colors really come out.

  4. Love seeing the bustling of Nakhon Phanom locals. The market is suitable for food lover and fashionista. It does carry a few pub and restaurant for night owls. It is quite a scene to spend time along Mekong River.

  5. I think this poor tower knows it has had its time in the spotlight and it is stuck at 7 o’clock. Area around is bustling and happy and someone should cheer up this poor clock tower by giving it a good review.

  6. This is the clock that the Vietnamese built to be a gesture of thank you for the Thais who allowed them to take refuge here in Nakhon Phanom during the Vietnam war.

  7. Whilst walking the street shops one block back from the Mekong it is worth historical reflection. It is floodlit at night.

  8. This was a beautiful tower which was especially striking at night. I wasn’t aware that this was a Vietnamese tower but I am aware now. This makes for beautiful photos at night. So impressed with the lighting of this tower.

  9. Are hotel was just behind it.its 1 road back from the river.looks a lot better at night when all lit up good for photos.lots of places to eat and drink near it.

  10. Located on Mekong riverbank in the heart of Nakhon Phanom city, the 50-metre-tall clock tower was built in 1960 by the Vietnamese who were residing in Nakhon Phanom during the period of the Vietnam War. The local residents welcomed these refugees with great hospitality. Before leaving Thailand, the Vietnamese community built this clock tower to act as a departing gift to show their gratitude towards the Thai locals. On the weekends (from 16:30 to 21:30), the place together with 1 km road along Mekong river turns into a lively night market full of street food vendors, souvenir vendors, restaurants, and cafes. We spent our nightlife tasting many local snacks along this walking street. Feel so…o good. Don’t miss! Highly recommend!
