  1. The Film Archive (หอภาพยนตร์) is a public organisation under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture dedicated to researching, preserving and creating awareness of Thailand’s rich cinematic legacy after many decades worth of historic films have been lost, most notably Miss Suwanna of Siam (นางสาวสุวรรณ), considered the first feature film to be made in Thailand. The 1923 drama was shown in Bangkok for three days but soon after it controversially disappeared. Canadian director Henry MacRae said he turned over a copy to King Rama VI but negatives of the film have never been found. Nothing exists today except its promotional materials held at the Archive’s Thai Film Museum. Tours in Thai are offered at 10:00, 13:00 and 15:00 at the weekend only but there’re free movies, both Thai and foreign, everyday. Check the schedule from http://www.fapot.org and call ahead to arrange an English-language tour. Its location isn’t convenient for tourists but film buffs can take air-conditioned bus 515 from Victory Monument or 556 from Phet Buri MRT, Ratchathewi intersection or Democracy Monument. Ask the driver to stop at Rajamangala University of Technology (มหาวิทยาลัยเทคโนโลยีราชมงคล) in Salaya (ศาลายา).
