There are no elephants in Mae Sot! or close by. This is a fake listing trying to lure you to one o the not so good elephant sanctuaries.
it was very nice place.the elephants are very nice.i love them so much.because they were very cleaver.
We participated as part of a tour. In short within a half hour we were in and out. First watched a 5 minute video about the park. We fed one of the elephants before having the chance to bathe the eliphant. Only a couple of minutes. No one offered to take pictures as was promoted. I guess as a tour tie-in you don’t get treated too well.
We spent a half day with the elephants where we fed them and washed them. The mahout who spoke to us was very informative about the reality of the logging industry and how the elephant tourism industry works. He also showed us how to climb onto the back of the elephant like a mahout and how to get off again. It was a lot of fun, I’d definitely recommend.
Ok. To all of those who wrote a bad review. I’m not really sure what you expect… this is no luxury place with marble floors and gold embellishments. We are in Thailand. It’s not Europe or America where they cater to rich and famous. Of course it’s not that clean. We are in the middle of the countryside. You can’t lick the floors. There is dirt and mud around. It’s an elephant sanctuary. They save the animals that have been neglected and overused for peoples’ selfish needs. They get a 5 star review from me because of their purpose. The people were very nice and even gave my hungry friend seconds. We got there early enough to make food for the elephants and even got to take a stroll atop of one called, Tong Di. At the end we got to bathe them. Finally served a delicious lunch of spring rolls and yellow curry with rice. They even accommodated my vegetarian diet. There was a presentation on the purpose of the facility and their mission, as well as elephant nature and behavior. They really do care for their animals as their family. Unlike circuses, where enraged elephants are blamed to have musth for their eventual killing sprees. These animals are free to eat and just hang out. They don’t paint or other stupid human entertaining acts. They are ridden barefooted, without harnesses or hard seats that hurt their backs. This was actually the most favorite part of our trip to Thailand. Please go and support this amazing and caring facility.
This is a really awesome thing to do that you can’t do many other places in the world! We did the half day with the elephants. You have to be a little adventurous because you can get muddy and wet. You’ll arrive, change into denim pants and top, spend time feeding the elephants and learning about them. Our instructor Tuck spoke excellent English and was very knowledgeable about each of the 11 elephants there. Then you take them for a little walk and they go swimming. You join them and bathe and brush them. Make sure to bring your own towels to try off and a change of clothes. There’s tons of time to interact with the elephants up close. Highly recommend visiting the park!
Majority of elephants were chained & had marks from hook usage. When I asked the elephant visitor guide why..he stated its no different from tying a dog on a chain!! The elephants did not look happy& were swaying from side to side. Trainers on elephants back were rough & violently kicking to make elephants enter water which they clearly did not want to do. Due to this I did not participate in the activity & I could not wait to leave.
Went as part of Panda Tour 2 days 1 night. This was part of the itinerary. As soon as you arrive to the camp they show you a video where you can see the elephants care taker with hooks in their hands. They keep riding the elephants and to guide them, they keep kick the animals behind their ears. There was a little elephant and he knew some tricks like putting a hat on a person. Definitely places in Chiang Mai that offer better treatment to the elephants.
