  1. Wat Nongbua is probably the second largest Buddhist temple in Surin city, in Thailand’s north east.As an aside, the large marble plaque at the entrance to this temple spells out its name in Thai and in English as Nongbour Temple, not Nongbua. But spelling variations are very common when Thai is translated into English. The temple has several imposing shrines and stupas, with some very interesting and colourful murals depicting scenes from the life of the Lord Buddha.I know that the temple was built in 1862, but other than that, it is very difficult to dig up any further information. When I visited all the monks were in a service, so I was unable to talk to any of them and seek further information.

  2. If your are visiting Surin and you have not experienced a visit to a Buddhist temple before, Wat Nongbua is right in the center of town and within easy walking distance of most central city locations.Do not be confused when you get to the entrance. The large marble plaque at the entrance spells out its name in Thai and in English as Nongbour Temple, not Nongbua. But spelling variations are very common when Thai is translated into English. The original temple was built in 1862, but there have obviously been many more modern and tasteless additions.
