  1. As with all temples this is another beautiful example of Thia history and culture, please be respectful of local culture when you attend.

  2. One of the temples in Surin which you can do by feet and also no entrance costs , because Thailand is not that cheap when we talk about entrance prices

  3. Very beautiful temple set in the heart of Surin city. Very peaceful location. Many thai people go to temple to pray their respect to Buddha.

  4. Nothing special but well worth an hour of your time walking around the grounds, observing the Buddhist monks and admiring the architectural. As I was staying nearby I am glad I visited this Wat but would not go out of my way for the sole purpose of visiting Wat Burapharam.

  5. This is one of famous temple in Surin. Not famous for foreigner but everyone in Surin knows this temple.

  6. Wat Burapharam is the grandest of the many Buddhist temples in Surin, in Thailand’s north west.It is right in the middle of town, so is easy to get to.It comprises several temple buildings, and other buildings, including administrative offices and monks’ dormitories.Wat Buraparam is about 200 years old, dating to the early Rattanakosin (Bangkok) period. Its founder was Phraya Surinpakdi Srinarong Changwang (Pum for short), who was also the founder and first lord of Surin. One of the temples houses the effigies of a famous monk who tutored His Majesty, King Bhumpol, when he was ordained a monk. The largest temple’s walls are covered in colourful fresco panels depicting the life of the Lord Buddha.

  7. In the centre of Surin, nice Buddha statues and veneration of some Abbottts of the Wat. The Buddha statue in the first shrine is Thailand’s national Buddha, the original statue stands in Phitsanulok. Here you have the possibility to release little birds for good luck. By releasing the birds you release all the bad things and good luck can come in. Be aware to wear appropriate clothing. No shorts, no armless shirts…for the ladies. TIP: take a long sarong/ shawl with you and cover yourself up before entering the Wat area. Afterwards easy removed and placed in your bag. For the man minimum knee level pants/ shorts and also no armless T shirts. Buddhist monks cannot be touched or close with ladies. So please never sit or stand next to a Buddhist monks. While offering something to a monk as a person you have two ways: put it on the ground/ table or the monk will offer you a piece of cloth where you can put the gift on. Never give something directly hand to hand. It is always nice to spend some coins at a Wat. Buy something as a souvenir or as protection for your future ( Buddha coin Or amulet) Or just because the Wat needs support for cleaning/ maintenance….

  8. Donations can be left as there is no entry charge and it is so awesome. Took more pictures here than anywhere else in Thailand.

  9. Wat Burapharam Phra Aram Luang (to give its full title) is thought to have been built in the Thonburi Monarchy era of Thai history, dating it back to the mid 18th century. This would make it as old as Surin City itself, which was given mandate in 1759.It contains the most sacred Buddha image in Surin Province, that of Luang Por Phra Chi, which is thought to have been built at the same time as the temple.Of course, there have been many extensions, additions and renovations of the temple since then and it is hard to determine the original from the latter.

  10. This temple is well known in Surin. Must see! It is beautiful, quite place and also good for meditation (sometimes it offers a class). It shows most of Thai Buddhist culture and religious.
